Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In honor of the day I wanted to share what I was able to find around the web in Martin Luther King. Jr. crochet.
Martin Luther King Jr. Tapestry Crochet, made by Carol Ventura in the early 1980s. Love it! More detail here. This piece is also highlighted in Carol’s profile in the terrific new crochet art book The Fine Art of Crochet by Gwen Blakley Kinsler.
In 2009, Crochet Geek Teresa Richardson shared on her blog: “Today is a holiday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. here in America. It is also recognized as a day of service, where people are going out in to the community to provide help for charitable organizations. People who crochet have a very generous spirit, through out the year. That is part of the genetic makeup of a crocheter.” I agree! That year Teresa asked people to share ideas for where to donate crochet and other handmade items. I encourage you to think about that option today!
@freecraft shared the idea to crochet the letters for “I Have A Dream”.
Yarn Love Affair sells a written crochet pattern for this Martin Luther King Jr. image. A similar more affordable pattern without the text is available via Craftsy and one that says DREAM under it by StephanieFalcon.
The American Flag Crochet Pattern featured above is from Leisure Arts.
