I recently ordered yarn from several different yarn sellers on Etsy. I basically was just looking around for some good prices on yarns I hadn’t tried yet and decided to try a few different sellers. One of the sellers was Glen Echo Designs, and I ended up being really pleased with the shopping experience.

About Glen Echo Designs

Glen Echo Designs is an Ohio-based Etsy store run by a husband and wife team. It’s named after a ravine in the area where they started married life together, which is just so sweet. The shop sells a range of different items including baby knits, cozies, accessories and jewelry. But of course what I care about is the yarn!

About the Yarn

I only ordered one skein of yarn from this store. It’s hand-dyed laceweight Knit Picks Gosaamer yarn in the color Blue Jeans. I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not but most of the yarn that I purchase for myself is in the blue or grey color family. My favorite color combo is teal and grey and I love purchasing yarns that reflect this. In any case, this terrific yarn only cost me $4 (plus shipping) for more than 400 laceweight yards and 25% of that goes to charity (see “other notes” below) so I thought that was great.

As far as yarn goes, Glen Echo Designs sells primarily hand dyed or hand painted yarn one skein at a time. What a great place to get something unique just to play around with! The yarn is typically in fingering weight or worsted weight. Colors vary a lot – right now I’m eyeing a hand painted worsted weight yarn called Lovebirds that is teal and yellow and orange as well as a hand dyed worsted weight called Mission Fig that’s a lush dark purple. Some skeins are mostly a solid color whereas others are variegated. Great choices here!

Occasionally they do have some other yarn on the site that they’re de-stashing from their own collection.

My Glen Echo Designs Experience

My Glen Echo Designs experience was super simple, which is always great. There were no glitches with ordering. My item came right away. It was packaged just fine and arrived safe and sound in my mailbox in a prompt manner. Very happy with that for sure!

Other Notes

I really want to note something that stood out to me about this store. When I received my email confirmation for the order, I saw a note added to it that said the following:

“With every purchase you are part of a great cause! 25% of all sales will be donated to Gracehaven House, a shelter for girls that have been trafficked, forced into commercial sexual exploitation. This home is a place for the girls to heal, grow, and reclaim the childhood that was taken from them. Check them out at http://www.gracehavenhouse.org.”

This really touched me. Earlier in life I worked in a therapeutic group home, in the sex abuse unit of Child Protective Services and with foster kids in my home so I saw the traumatic effects of abuse up close and personal. I also worked briefly at an agency that aids refugees and that agency had a lawyer on staff assigned just to work human trafficking cases, which is how I learned just how serious and unfortunately common the problem remains in the United States. So I was just really touched that this Etsy seller donates a whopping 25% of sales proceeds to such a charity.

As a side note, the seller does actually mention this on the Etsy store but I’d just been a lazy reader and not noticed it until my email came. Anyway, I think it’s great.

You can follow GlenEchoDesigns on Twitter under that name.

CONCLUSION: Great online yarn shopping experience.Would definitely repeat!

Thank you so much for this glowing review! I work with trafficked girls and it can be simply heartbreaking to see the trauma that they have been through. I use my shop as my gift to these girls – a second chance for a childhood. I really appreciate your review. Thank you again.
