If you happen to be in New York and you love crochet then be sure to get yourself down to The NY Studio Gallery before the 12th. That’s when crochet artist Olek’s current exhibit there comes to a close.
Olek is one of the hottest crochet artists getting attention for her camouflage crochet and yarnbombing efforts around New York City. Learn more about Olek.
The exhibit is an interesting one because it’s a collaborative effort between Olek and multidisciplinary artist Devan Harlan. Olek has gotten a lot of attention for the work she’s done crocheting covers for bicycles. The exhibit, called Suffolk Deluxe Electric Bicycle, I., starts with Olek’s crochet covered bikes but then takes Devan’s experience with 3D work and projection mapping to wrap the bikes in light.
From the studio’s description of the project:
“Transcending both new media and fiber arts, the work stands at the precipice of a new viewing experience. While radiant color and motion play across the bicycle’s iconic form a hypnotic simultaneity takes over, leaving the viewer hovering at the threshold of the limited and the limitless.”
I won’t be able to check this out in person because I’m not in New York but I hope someone who does see it will let me know how it is because it sounds terrific!
