12 Free Christmas Crochet Patterns – Creative Projects

For the twelve days leading up to Christmas 2022, I created a “Twelve Days of Crochet” advent calendar.

Each holiday season project was geared to be able to complete in a few hours, so they’re really friendly patterns for beginners, and all were festive themed so they can be used as handmade gifts or decorations!

Now that the event is over, I wanted to do a quick recap on each project and link to each one, so there’s a quick and easy way to access each of the projects as well as the entire project as a whole.

1. Day 12: Cocoa Bear

I kicked off the project with this super cute cocoa bear pattern! I really love the little mug that he sits in.

I also like that this project can be reused for different seasons – simply change the embroidery on the front of the mug and you can repurpose it for a different holiday.

2. Day 11: Bow Garland

Day 11's project only uses chain stitches to construct the garland, so it works up quickly and is very beginner friendly!

This pretty bow garland can be strung up on your tree or hung on the wall – and again, the possibilities for different seasons are endless if you vary the colors!

3. Day 10: Mini Snowman

This one might be my personal favorite of the whole bunch. I love this little snowman's scarf and nose – he makes an excellent ornament but is also a good decoration for the whole winter season.

4. Day 9: Snowflake

This snowflake motif is built like a doily – it's actually very similar in construction to the doily pattern I made in my post discussing doilies.

It adds one additional round to the pattern to give it the classic six-pointed sides of a snowflake.

5. Day 8: Holiday Tree

I can't think of anything that says winter quite like a pine tree. Though I know they're "evergreen," they seem to really pop in the winter, when all the other trees have shed their leaves.

I, unfortunately, cannot bring in a real pine tree for the holidays (small space + cat = disaster!) so instead, whip up a few of these trees.

They look cute both in a tiny terracotta pot or on the snowy coin created in the pattern to help them stand up.

6. Day 7: Mistletoe and Holly Applique

I love the versatility of this pattern! You can make it into a pin for a cardigan or jacket, attach it to a stocking (as I did later in the project), or make a wreath.

7. Day 6: Festive Holiday Candle

Here's another pattern that I'm excited to use for different seasons! I attached the Mistletoe and Holly applique I made to this candle to make it more of a Christmas theme, but imagine the candle made with black and orange striped yarn!

8. Day 5: Peppermint Candy

Made to look like an old-fashioned hard candy or a Christmas cracker, this little candy looks very sweet on the tree or attached to a gift!

9. Day 4: Star

This star is an applique that can be attached to a stocking, or scarf, or made into an ornament for the tree. I like that this can also be repurposed for other seasons!

10. Day 3: Snowflake Globe Ornament

I used the same snowflake embroidery pattern on this ornament that I used for the cocoa bear – I love how it gives is a simple cottage decor style look.

You can make them in any color, but I really like the contrast of the white ornament body with a red snowflake.

11. Day 2: Mini Stocking

Here is another project that uses the mistletoe and holly applique project from Day 7. I ended up making a few of these and giving them out filled with treats and gift cards – it was the perfect homemade touch!

12. Day 1: Mini Pom Pom Hat

For the last project, I made a tiny pom pom hat ornament – it also doubles as a hat for the mini snowman project from Day 3!
