A couple of months ago I de-stashed a bunch of my vintage craft magazines. In the process I found lots of great inspiring images of crochet.     Some of those projects, in a more modern color palette, could actually be nice! I kind of like the 3rd one down. And those shawls remind me of a poncho my grandmother made me when I was a kid in the 70’s :-)
