OK, what's on my hook for this month? Is apparently my sanity. I have a lot of projects going on. So first off, I have the Honey Milk Throw by darlingadore.com, sorry, that's darlingjador.com. And it's 24 squares and each square has either an X or an O, so there will be 12 exes and 12 oh. And I'm doing it with Big Twist yarn and it's in an ivory color and it's for my son and his girlfriend, sorry, his wife, they just got married in June.

And the next thing I have on my hook is the Mustache in a Square Blanket by Repeat Crafter Me. I'm using Mandela gradient yarn for that and I think that'll be really pretty, it's my stitch, it's really solid stitch and I just love the texture and look of that and I think it's gonna look really good with that gradient yarn.
The next thing I have is the Hugo Burst Blanket by Naughty Crawl. And it's a year long project. Some people do temperature blankets and I didn't want to do a temperature blanket because it gets so hot here in the desert that it's depressing, so it would all be the same color for it being over 100°. So I wanted to do something different, so I thought I'd do, first I was gonna do a square a day and then that's just too much, so I decided to do a few squares a week. I don't wanna force myself to crochet too many or I'll get burned out and go onto something else. If crochet starts to feel even slightly like work to me, I don't wanna do it. So I wanna keep my interest and keep it fun.
So the next project is the Granny Ripple by Bago Day Crochet, and I'm using Lion Brand Landscapes Renewed yarn in fiesta, and it is such a pretty yarn. I absolutely love the colors in this, and on my TikTok videos I get so many compliments on the colors in that blanket. People really love that blanket, and it's the granny ripple stitch, it's so easy and I don't even have to think, I can just do that and I don't have to worry about counting or anything like that.
Do you see why I say my sanity is, I'm losing my sanity because I've got a lot of projects going on and I'm thinking of more.
How it's going
How am I doing with my projects? Let's see, I have… For my honey milk throw I have 2 1/2 squares done, yay, so clearly I'm crushing it, just kidding. I need to have 12 exes and 12 ohs done by December, so I probably should start taking this a little more seriously.
Then for my Hugo burst blanket I have about 23 squares done, I need a total of 80. I have been putting this off and I need to get busy and get some more squares done. Let's see.
And for the granny ripple blanket, the granny ripple blanket is about 1/3 of the way done, it's just easy mindless crochet so I try to work on that a little bit every week, few rows at least. Again, I need to have that done by Christmas so I need to get busy.
What I just finished
I just finished a suncatcher and it's hanging in my office window. It's really colorful and I had so much fun making it. I used sheep's Katona yarn, and honestly I don't need an excuse to use that yarn. I love that yarn, it comes in so many bright colors. I used some bright colors in this. I loved working with the hoop and just working with thread, it was a nice change of pace, and it is hanging in my office window.

And I finished a wind spinner. I do a wind spinner every month, it's something new I've started. I started it in July and I made a patriotic red white and blue wind spinner, and for August I did yellow orange red and purple. And that is hanging up now.
And I made an antique piano bench cover. It was a mandala cover and it's really bright colors and just beautiful. I had so much fun making this, it just was a different stitch each row, very easy pattern to follow, and it was just so fun changing colors and picking different colors and seeing the effect that it made when it was all finished. It's really bright and colorful and I just love it on that antique piano bench.
What I'd do differently
What would I do differently? I have to laugh at that because I make mistakes all the time. The sun catcher that's hanging in my office that I enjoyed making so much, I got it all done and put it in the hoop and then I noticed there's a gigantic mistake and I have no idea how I didn't see it. No clue. It's literally staring me in the face, but I'm just gonna leave it, it's too late now. And I figure if it's like me, it's imperfect. I'm very imperfect, so I like this Japanese aesthetic, it's called Wabi Sabi, if you've ever heard of that. It's the idea of finding beauty in imperfection. So I'm practicing my Wabi Sabi every time I look at that sun catcher. It's very Wabi Sabi, just like me. I'm Wabi Sabi.
But the piano band cover, I would not change a thing. I absolutely loved making that and I used cotton yarn and I played with all kinds of stitches and colors and just had a ball with that.
Let's see, what else would I do differently? I think that's all I do differently for now, for today.
What I ripped out
Oh, I tried making another suncatcher. This time I found a pattern online and it was for basically a lace off-white doily inside of a hoop. And I followed the pattern, and the pattern, the written pattern, had a bunch of mistakes in it, and then I made a bunch of mistakes myself. So basically me and the pattern were both having a terrible day. So I also used the wrong weight of yarn because I thought I could improvise, but spoiler alert, I couldn't. I just couldn't get it to work right, so I ripped it out. I'm gonna try and add a picture of my giant faux pas. But I'm OK with that. Everything I do is not always a win, it's a lot of trial and error. Sometimes I don't want crochet to feel like work, if it starts feeling like a job I just don't wanna do it. So, crochet makes me happy and I wanna keep that feeling alive.
What I bought
Oh of course I had to buy some yarn, I can't go a whole month without buying yarn. I bought some Mandala gradient yarn that I'm using in my stitch blanket and it's in the color steel blue, blue is one of my favorite colors so I bought some of that for this project and I believe that is all the yarn I bought. I bought a yarn holder that I wanna try out and I think the solution to buying so much yarn is having a nice way to organize the yarn you have, so that's why I bought the yarn holder. At least that's what I tell myself, makes perfect sense to me.
What's next
What's next, there's always something next. When I start a new project I'm already planning the next one. Well, I've officially jumped on the chaos blanket bandwagon, it's all over TikTok and everybody's making one and I had a serious case of FOMO. So of course I had to join in and I'm doing a crochet along for the chaos blanket with a coworker and we're gonna make our own chaos blanket. I love the randomness of the chaos blanket, you never know what color is gonna be next, you never know what stitch you're gonna be doing next, or how many rows you'll be doing it. It sounds like a lot of fun to me. What you do is you get to choose each day just a random stitch, random number of rows, and a random color. So some people roll a dice, some people spin a spinner, it's a lot of fun. I'm excited to get started. So I'm thinking of using autumn colors, but then I might do a Christmas one, I'm not sure. Stay in tune and I will update you as soon as I've made that decision.
So the next thing I wanna do is a wind spinner for September, again I'm thinking fall colors, something very September. Probably some orange and gold and tan, maybe, I don't know. I thought I'd look online and see if I could find anything with like apples or pumpkins or something. Also I am thinking of starting Christmas projects. So I am thinking of making Christmas ornaments. Sometimes I crochet a roomie for my grandkids, maybe I'll do that. I have teenage grandkids, is there anything I could crochet for them? I'm trying to keep those things in mind. I also have to have the honey milk throw done by December for Christmas. I need to have the granny ripple done by Christmas. And then I also had started early in the year making my daughter a blanket and I put it aside in February, and now it's August and I can't even remember what pattern I was using, so I'd only done a couple rows, so I'm gonna figure out a different pattern and get started on my oldest daughter's blanket and hopefully have that done by Christmas. I also wanna do a new Christmas stocking, just something different and cute and traditional. So I'm starting to think of Christmas and fall. I guess I wanna start fall things because I'm hoping that if I crochet fall things, fall will actually show up here in the desert in Arizona. A girl can dream, right?
