Once I pick out a project, then comes the terrible decision of choosing colors. I guess it usually depends on who the project is for and where the project will be going. Is it a blanket?

Is it a throw for the couch? Is it wearable?

All of those factor into my decision-making. Of course, if I'm making something for someone else, I try to choose something that would either match their home decor or one of their favorite colors. Even if I'm crocheting something for myself, I base my choices on that.

Bright Colors and a Piano Bench Cover From Ravelry

I tend to like bright, vivid colors, and I also like crocheting with bright, vivid colors. It keeps me from being bored and makes the project more exciting. I usually look on the internet for inspiration.

When I made my piano bench cover, I went to Ravelry.com and found the pattern and looked at other projects that people had uploaded to see what inspired me. I also go to Pinterest and look at crochet projects for ideas. I also Google trending colors or popular color palettes.

Paint Palettes, Odd Numbers, and a Neutral Shade

I will Google trending paint color palettes. Sherwin-Williams and other popular paint brands have certain color palettes that are quite popular and trending, which I use for inspiration. Popular home decor colors and fashion colors are also a great thing to search for.

There are also digital tools out there. Color Palette Generators are an excellent tool. I find that odd numbers of colors work best.

If I'm choosing a color palette, I try to have three, five, or seven colors. I also like to have a neutral shade in there as well. Sometimes I'll choose colors that I like and put them all together, then take a photo.

Sometimes that gives me a new perspective.

Dropping a Color I Don't Like on the Christmas Blanket

Sometimes I can be very indecisive, and I struggle with choosing. I'll pick a color palette, decide that's what I'm going to do, and then I'll get started, and maybe a color or two just doesn't work for me, so I'll change it up. I'm kind of dealing with that right now with my Christmas Chaos Blanket.

There were a couple of colors I chose that I'm not too crazy about, so I'm changing it up. I'm not going to add a few of those going further. I'm not going to rip it out, but I'm just not going to continue using the color that I don't like.

After all, it's our project, and we can do whatever we want! We can have it the way WE want, and that is perfectly fine.

Ask Them Their Favorite Colors, Then Have Fun

If you're crocheting for someone else, choose a color palette that you know they would love or colors that would match their decor. Ask them what their favorite colors are. Ask them if they have a favorite color palette.

Try to match it to something that's in their home. If you're choosing colors and struggling with where to start, I highly recommend finding a color palette generator. There are many online ones that you can use for free.

Also look up trending colors on Pinterest, or look at crochet projects for inspiration. For example, if you're making a granny square blanket, look up granny square blankets and look at all the different colors and patterns that are available that people have used. Ravelry is also a great resource.

Look up the pattern that you're using, then look at projects that people have uploaded.

I have found so many great ideas that way. Look up trending paint colors, fashion colors, & trending home decor colors. Stick with the same weight of yarn.

Just have fun with it! Do what makes you happy. Choose a color palette that makes you happy and brings you joy.

We're so lucky to live in this day and age when we have so many cool ideas to inspire us. Best of luck in choosing colors!
