When I did my review of Marie-Noelle Bayard’s crochet book yesterday I promised I’d be quoting the great preface here on the blog. Here is the first of my fave quotes from that book:
“Whenever “hand made” makes yet another come-back, crochet is in the forefront because – in contrast to knitting or lace-making – no machine can reproduce the effect of hand-worked crochet. Crochet itself is a guarantee that real handcrafts will always be sought after”.

How very true!
I’d never really thought about it like that….but it makes sense. Wow. Does that mean that all the crocheted clothes in Topshop (which currently is a relatively enormous amount) are all hand done? That’s blowing my mind a little bit.
@Abi – Yeah it’s crazy. It’s one of the reasons that it’s important to do a little research if you want to buy crochet clothing from chain stores … because some of them are paying their workers in other countries fair wages for all of that hand crochet work but others may not be.
