Something I see a lot of people making currently is those teeny-tiny keychains. It's one trend I just don't understand, not because I don't appreciate it; it's just hard for me to do. Some really talented artists out there right now make them.

They'll make small little animal shapes and then put a keychain ring on it and sell it at craft fairs and stuff like that. I love seeing them around. I'm just not very good at those teeny tiny projects with that level of detail.
Why Chunky Yarn Amigurumi Never Clicked For Me
I know I've spoken about it before, but I'm just not a fan of that big, chunky yarn to make other projects with. I think when you make blankets and scarves and things like that, they turn out great.
And I know a lot of really talented artists make amigurumi animals out of them. I've tried, but I don't love it. I don't like that it's such a big project that I can't add small details. I don't like the dimensions it ends up being.
It's not because the yarn isn't great. I just don't love working with it that way.
The Cupcake Yarn Cardigan I Doubted
For years, I've seen people make cardigans and wearable things in bright, fun colors, especially with cupcake yarn that blends all the colors together.
I didn't think I would enjoy it, but I ended up making a cardigan not too long ago with the cupcake yarn. And although the colors are all over the place and pretty crazy, I really like how it turned out.

How Granny Squares Won Me Over
Granny squares are another thing that took me quite a while to finally get into, but I have now been converted. For some reason in my mind, I thought they were kind of an old idea. You always see the retro colors on the blankets sitting across people's couches with granny squares.
But I've found lots of really cool stitches, and by combining different colors, you can make granny squares look very modern if you want. I recently made a throw blanket out of a bunch of granny squares and really loved how it turned out.
Earlier last year, I also made a poncho I've written about before for my friend, and it was just a bunch of granny squares sewn together. And when they're done in all the different colors, I actually love the motif it created.
Amigurumi Deserves More Love
I wish making amigurumi were a little more popular than it is. Again, I know some artists are really talented and love to do it. I personally love to make them as well. I just don't see them displayed as much or shown off as much.
I think a lot of times people think of crochet as a craft where you create something usable or wearable. When, in all reality, you can make all sorts of fun shapes and animals and just about anything you can imagine. And I wish that was a little more mainstream.
Throw Blankets Forever
Oh, hands down, 10 years from now, I will still be making throw blankets. I think it's the most classic crochet craft. I think you can come up with all sorts of fun designs, patterns, and themes.
There are so many fun patterns out there now for tapestries and seasonal displays, and I think I'll be making those forever.
