Sommige van mijn favoriete Haak citaten are words written some time ago that sound as though they could have been written today. That’s the case with today’s quote which comes from the crochet chapter of a 1978 book by Diane Philippoff Maurer called Vezel Arts: Macrame, Haak, Tekstterugloop, Coiling, Weven.

During the past few years, crochet has leaped from the antimacassared arms of overstuffed furniture and the blanketed legs of convalescents to the contemporary fiber arts scene. It’s somewhat ironic that the former pastime of refined gentlefolk should have become the most versatile and imaginatively used of all the fiber media. The intricate patterns of off-white doilies are being transformed into outrageous free-form sculptures in an explosion of colors.

Couldn’t this just as easily be said again today?
