Anneke Wiese of @crochetinpaternoster is a wonderful crafter who makes beautiful crochet primarily using t-shirt yarn.
As her Instagram handle suggests, she lives in Paternoster, which is a small fishing village off the coast of South Africa, and we often get to enjoy beautiful beach photos from her on Instagram.
She makes doily rugs, durable crochet baskets, bunting, and more. We haven’t looked at a collection of her crochet work for a while, so let’s take a look at what she has been up to as well as some old favorites.

Crochet Hallway Rug and Other Favorites
My favorite piece out of everything she’s created is this stunning crochet doily rug, shown on her Instagram.
That’s just a stunning piece – it’s flowers and doilies and stars, all joined together in an openwork format that works perfectly executed in that denim blue. I have plenty of other favorites among her creations, though!
Check out this gorgeous doily made from t-shirt yarn. The popcorn stitches around the outside and the petal-shaped open sections make this especially eye-catching.
How cute is this crocheted basket with a fish applique? It fits Anneke’s beach setting perfectly, but we think it would be fun anywhere.
Perfect Crochet Photography
These photos are among my favorites from Anneke because they not only share the lovely crochet perfectly but also accent it with a photographic layout that tells a story.
Granny Squares Galore
Anneke has done some lovely work with crochet granny squares. We see that she goes from working on individual crochet squares to squares that become the basis for other projects like crochet fingerless gloves.
Here is an especially whimsical and colorful square that we love. Anneke’s feed is filled with beautifully colorful squares like this.
I really love the yarn choice on the above pair of fingerless gloves.
Check out the photo tutorial on Ravelry to make your own version of these fingerless mittens. It’s a great way to use any granny squares you have made that don’t make it into another project, like a blanket.
Crochet in the Round
Squares aren’t all that Anneke does well. We know from her t-shirt yarn rugs that she also makes beautiful crochet circles. Here are some more:
Anneke successfully crochets beautiful rugs in the round that are monochromatic as well as done in multiple colors. The difference in color scheme makes these rugs a stylistic fit for different places.
This particular grey and pale pink combination would be lovely in a nursery or a child’s room.
Chocolate has been known to sneak into more than one of Anneke’s photos. (And don’t you love that hook!!) Between the brown crochet and the lime green crochet hook, the chocolate bar matches perfectly.
Crochet Hearts
A heart just brightens up any day! This crochet heart bunting would make a great Valentine’s Day craft, and you can make your own (or a different crochet heart project) if you purchase the pattern in Anneke’s Ravelry store.

I love the way these colorful crocheted flowers are displayed on a plate- it makes me think of a tray of cookies or candies.
