Anneke Wiese of @crochetinpaternoster is a wonderful crafter who makes beautiful crochet primarily using t-shirt yarn. Obviously, she’s living in Paternoster, which is a small fishing village off the coast of South Africa, and we often get to enjoy beautiful beach photos from her on Instagram. She makes doily rugs, durable crochet baskets, bunting and more. We haven’t looked at a collection of her crochet work since the end of last year so let’s see what she’s been up to. You can also follow her on her crochet blog, Facebook and Ravelry; you’ll find some of her crochet patterns on the latter.
Crochet Hallway Rug and Other Favorites
My favorite piece of everything she’s created is this stunning crochet doily rug:
That’s just a stunning piece – it’s flowers and doilies and stars, all joined together in an openwork format that works perfectly executed in that denim blue. But I have a few other favorites from her feed this year, too:
Lavender in crochet vases that are especially designed for lavender with their light purple hearts and edging on that neutral t-shirt yarn background.
A simple crochet square becomes art when Anneke adds tassels and hangs on it a pice of natural wood. See crochet + driftwood inspiration here.
This crochet basket liner just feels perfect to me. It’s the right color, the right chunky but soft texture, the right design of the stitches to match that unique basket in a wonderful way. It looks like it belongs in a beach home.
Perfect Crochet Photography
These photos are among my favorites from Anneke because they not only share the lovely crochet perfectly but also accent it with a photographic layout that tells a story.
Granny Squares Galore
Anneke has done some lovely work with crochet granny squares in the past year. We see that she goes from working on individual crochet squares to squares that become the basis for other projects like crochet fingerless gloves.
This was actually a t-shirt yarn rug that she spotted somewhere else. If I recall correctly, a family member might have made it.
I love how there’s a circle in a square here and then there’s a matching striped crochet t-shirt yarn basket. It’s a perfect beach picnic display!
I really love the yarn choice on the above pair of fingerless gloves.
This photo shows how the gloves are made, even though it doesn’t show us the step-by-step process. It’s a really smart photo and one that makes me smile.
Crochet in the Round
Squares aren’t all that Anneke does well. We know from her t-shirt yarn rugs that she also makes beautiful crochet circles. Here are some more:
The multi-color crochet rugs have a completely different feeling than the ones like this that are solid in color. They each work well in different spaces.
This one is turning round even though it’s made from stars!
Chocolate has been known to sneak into more than one of Anneke’s photos. (And don’t you love that hook!!)
T-shirt yarn might be her go-to choice, but Annek does lovely work with regular yarn as well.
And a half circle for good measure. This is the perfect shape for a rug to line up against a doorway!
A heart just brightens up any day …
I adore the crochet heart baskets.

Pretty in pink; here are some pink crochet patterns
This photo made me laugh
I love how this granny square became a twisted cowl
Beautiful showcase of the magic of this yarn.
