Judy Chambers, from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, wrote:

I only discovered Wink last year when I joined her CAL on Facebook. It broke my heart to hear of her loss with her battle with depression. She was a very creative person and a beautiful human being. I, and the world, will miss her.”

Wink wrote in her description of this mandala:

“Summer is almost here, let’s celebrate with an uplifting new mandala design! Inspired by hearts, love, summer and all things that are good in life, this mandala looks great on your wall or as a coaster or potholder.”

About Depression

One purpose of this project is to raise awareness about depression so each post will end with some facts, thoughts or quotes about depression, suicide and/or mental health. This week is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Week here in the United States so I’m emphasizing information about suicide that you might not know. For example, did you know that it’s much more likely that someone in the US will die from suicide than homicide? News and other media make many people afraid of homicide but it’s only the 16th leading cause of death in the US; suicide is #10 in general and is #2 for ages 15-24. More people over the age of 10 die by suicide than in car accidents. Almost 8 in 10 of US suicides are by men; more than half use a firearm. On a more positive note, a large percentage of attempted suicides are unsuccessful so it can be really, really helpful for friends and family members to learn about warnings signs and how to help with prevention.
