Crochet Elephant Patterns: Fun, Creative, and Adorable!

I remember being 8 or 9 years old when my baby brother became obsessed with the song “I want a hippopotamus for Christmas”, screaming it all day long. Being the caring older sibling that I am, I naturally set out to make all his dreams come true and decided to crochet him a hippopotamus.

However, finding a crochet hippopotamus pattern prior to internet days wasn’t exactly a feasible feat for a youngster, so I instead settled on the next best thing that I could find – an elephant stuffy.

Suffice it to say, my brother adored me for a full 5 seconds after opening his gift before promptly forgetting about it upon opening the next gift from our parents.

Thankfully, finding animal stuffies you can crochet yourself is much easier in today’s crafting world, and although finding a hippo pattern might still take some searching, elephant stuffies are still in abundance. And, oh, how many cute elephant stuffies there are today!

We’ve gathered up some of our favorite elephant stuffy crochet patterns, along with some other fun elephant-themed items you can crochet yourself!

  1. Thanks for including my elephants in the round up, and thank you for doing the round up! You have included so many wonderful elephant patterns I hadn’t found on my own. I adore elephants, and as soon as I get done with my state fair project, I am going to have to get back to that 101 elephant project.
