Crochet As Wall Art
Mounting your crochet pieces on your wall is an obvious choice. However, many pieces are made with fine fibers and therefore a little floppy so you have to hang them properly for an exquisite display. Here are a few ideas for hanging your work as wall art.
If you're a fan of creating motifs, you may have lots of random ones laying around that are too cute not to display. We love the way this Etsy creator made canvas art with their crochet.
You can find blank canvases of varying size at most retail craft stores. Using Modge Podge, you can securely fasten your work onto the canvas in whatever design you want. This is a great way to get creative with mixed media too - get crafty and paint the canvas before securing your fiber art on!
We love the inspiration of wrapping your work around a canvas to display the beautiful stitch work. Although this example is knitting, you certainly can get the same effect with crocheted items as well!
This is a particularly good idea for older garments that may not be wearable anymore, but are too gorgeous to simply trash. Save the best bits by wrapping them around a canvas to display your hard work! A great way to upcycle family heirloom creations.
Another wall hanging option uses a frame to display your works. This tutorial gives directions on how to best stiffen and display your work within a frame.
It's a good idea to choose a frame that creates a nice contrast between the colors in your yarn. If your piece is a solid white or all pale color, choose a bright-colored frame to add dimension. To change the color of an existing frame, just use spray paint to make a custom display. For brightly colored crochet works, choose a neutral frame so that your work will be the focus.

You can mix up the colors to make an eclectic arrangement or choose one color to match your décor and be a link to the rest of your color scheme.

Although the picture example is of potholders, you can display just about any form of your work in this way. Whether its your hats and scarves and sweaters put up on display while not being used or just your practice swatches of new yarn and stitches, you can hang just about anything up on a string.
Simply use wall hooks or command strips to hold twine in place. You can use regular or decorative clothespins to hold up items. This is great for seasonal things as you can easily take items up and down without changing the quality of the items (unlike with framing, where you may need to stiffen your work for your frame to last a long time).
