Here is this week’s edition of crochet link love where I try to support the crochet community by sharing links to the best of the best in crochet art, crochet patterns, crochet fashion and more from around the web this week.
“I’ve got a serious yarn thing going on right now. Ok, yes, yes I know that I always have a yarn thing going on, but right now it’s all a little bit more intense and giddy and I have that fizzy feeling inside that makes me feel like I could bounce off the walls with excitement. I’ve been swirling a lot of ideas around lately, pushing and pulling them, twiddling and twirling them (night and day) in the hope that I might be able to ease one or two of them out into reality. My Creative Mind is on FIRE!!!!!!!!!! I started teasing out a new design that relies heavily on colour play, and it is really thrilling for a colour junkie like me. The planning stage for any new project is probably one of the most exciting parts of the journey for me, I thrive on filling my brain with colours and coming up with creative designs.” – Lucy of Attic24 who shares the importance of a slow hands-on approach to color play.
I was excited to see a news article about crochet artist Caitlin McCormack, who I follow on Instagram, and even more excited to learn from the article that “McCormack began this body of work when her grandparents died within months of each other in late 2010 and early 2011. After studying illustration during her undergraduate years, McCormack returned to the familiar process of crocheting to deal with her grief.”

College student creates Crochet Everyday, a community leadership program inspired by an intersession class that taught students to “not live life in fear.” “By teaching its members how to create something new, a new perspective is shown for living each day to its fullest – whether people want to sell what they make or wear it. Crocheting offers a chance to de-stress from the world outside and learn at the same time“, he said.
Students are working with the community to crochet items for Nepal earthquake victims; they’ll be sent back with students from Nepal who are returning home to make sure the items actually make it to those in need. This reminds me of the article I wrote a couple of years ago about responding to tragedies with heartfelt donations.
