Crochet Quote
“Seeing all the colours of my yarn, envisioning a product, designing it and finally finishing it all give me varying levels of satisfaction, and joy. It’s a great tool to shut my mind down and not think about the bad things, and by the time I am done fighting the darkness in my head, I’ve created something that’s beautiful and usable.” – From a powerful post about crocheting through mental illness from @theladiesfinger

“One of my favorite museum moments was when visiting the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York in 2010 and seeing part of the Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef … The crocheted reef was displayed next to a Roomba vacuum cleaner and a mechanical arm for amputees. The museum had juxtaposed the three objects as equally important examples of design, forethought, creation, and catalysts of societal change”. – Leanne Prain, from the press release interview for Strange Materials

Kathryn,
what a tremendously wonderful post! I couldn’t be happier and thankful for being included with all these crochet gems!
Thanks!!
First of all, thank you for including my shawl. Secondly, what an incredible collection of art and diy!
These women featured stitching away for others are such a clear example of how crucial it is to create through adversity. Many of us know how that exchange changes us chemically, emotionally, and physically; but not enough of us understand why. In a world where things come to us so easily, we have to make a conscious effort to slow down, remove ourselves, and make.
Thank you for bringing that to our attention.
Well said! Thanks for the lovely comment!
So many great links this week! Thanks for including mine, and for all the work you do finding the best stuff out there each week!
Thanks for the support! Was happy to see your Dyers in the Studios series get a new post!
I’m loving those giant popcorn squares! :)
I was amazed with the lady crocheting even though she had lost her memory. However, when I saw the lady lying in her bed crocheting for charity, when she herself is fighting bone cancer and osteo,my heart started singing praises to her. She is do selfless in giving. We should all follow her example of love for our neighbor. Afterall, that is what God tells us to do! I’m in awe of this wonderful lady. To not give in to her pain, but to think of others needs is just breathtaking! If you could get a message to her, please tell her she is admired totally NY me. Thank you
Beautiful uplifting and inspiring post…thank you!
