awesome crochet blog awards

Welcome to the 2014 Awesome Crochet Blog Awards.

Today’s award is for:

The Best Promotion of the Crochet Community

And it goes to:

Illuminate Crochet

About This Award

Learn more about what these awards are here. This specific award is for the best promotion of the crochet community. What I mean by this is that it goes to the blogger who has done the best job of using her blog to promote others in the crochet community in a variety of different ways. We have a wonderful community here and it’s so important to spread the word about it. (That’s what these awards are really all about.) I want to recognize others who do that well!

About The Winner

The winner of this award is Sara Leighton of Illuminate Crochet. Sara is a Seattle-based crochet designer whose patterns are available through Ravelry and Craftsy. She sells finished items on Etsy.

“Crochet is my very favorite way to fill my days and bring the ideas I have stored in my brain out into the world to share with others. In addition to crochet my hobbies include quilling, baking, and reading.”

Sara crochets every day. She shares her crochet patterns on her blog but she also shares so much more there. She writes,

“Illuminate Crochet shines a light on crochet projects, designers, and products to bring you interesting and inspired content.”

Why The Winner Won

crochet ideas

Here are some of the reasons that I selected this blogger for this crochet award:

  • She has a commitment to using her blog to illuminating what other people are doing in crochet. It’s her blog’s mission and she does it well.
  • Remix Fridays. I love these weekly posts where a crocheter takes a crochet pattern and alters it in some ways and shares the whole process on the blog. It’s inspiring and it’s a neat way to get to know something unique about different crocheters and patterns.
  • Friday Focus. Here’s another regular feature of the blog where a specific crochet designer or artist is interviewed. The interviews are detailed and interesting and provide great information about the designers.
  • Reviews. Sara shares reviews of yarn, crochet patterns and crochet books, which is a great way for the rest of us to learn about the pros and cons of different resources in the community.

Other Categories I Could Have Chosen

Each person is only awarded one award each year (and likewise, each award only goes to one person with a few exceptions) but of course each amazing blogger often does many things well. Some of the other categories that I easily could have given this blogger an award for include:
