awesome crochet blog awards

Welcome to the 2014 Awesome Crochet Blog Awards.

Today’s award is for:

Best Crafty Podcast

And it goes to:

Fiber Hooligan

About This Award

Learn more about what these awards are here. This specific award is for the best crafty podcast that includes crochet information. I’ve been seeing all over the online media lately that podcasting is making a big comeback. I’m glad to see it happening in the craft community where a lot of good crochet blogs faded away in recent years. Podcasting offers an alternative medium online for learning about crochet and is especially great for times when you are crafting and don’t want to look up at a tv screen.

About The Winner

The winner of this award is Fiber Hooligan, a weekly one-hour podcast that airs on Mondays at 11am CT. All Free Knitting says:

“Hosted by the talented Benjamin Levisay, the Fiber Hooligan is dedicated to bringing you interviews with the best of the fiber arts world. Benjamin Levisay is the CEO of XRX, Inc., home of Knitter’s Magazine, XRX Books, and STITCHES Expos. Ben’s talented guests provide numerous insights into the various aspects of working with fiber. The Fiber Hooligan touches on numerous subjects, including—but not limited to– knitting, crocheting, spinning, and weaving.”

Facebook adds:

“Tammy Burke is the host of ‘The State of the Hooligan’ on Fiber Hooligan. She lives in Boise, ID. Tammy is an aspiring knitwear designer and enthusiastic supporter of the fiber arts community.”

Some of the crocheters interviewed on the podcast this year are Ellen Gormley, Andrea Marquis, Kristin Omdahl, Stacey Trock and Jenny King.

Why The Winner Won

Here are some of the reasons that I selected this blogger for this crochet award:

  • Consistent posts with a scheduled time on a weekly basis.
  • Lengthy podcasts that last a full hour so we get lots of juicy information.
  • Great interviews that are personable, detailed and fun.
  • Creative range of people who are interviewed for the podcast.
  • Show notes are posted.

Other Categories I Could Have Chosen

Each person is only awarded one award each year (and likewise, each award only goes to one person with a few exceptions) but of course each amazing blogger often does many things well. Some of the other categories that I easily could have given this blogger an award for include:

  • Best Crochet Interviews
  • Best Crochet Design Info
  • Best MultiCraft Site Featuring Crochet
