Something Special
“The Crochet Crowd Global Community is challenged to create fun amigurumi characters for a crochet ‘safari’ in the theme of the Disney movie “Madagascar”. Using ideas of the animals but not true to the character’s looks, we are asking fans to go above and beyond their imagination. There are over $3000 in prizes to be won, thanks to @RedHeartYarns, Creative Festival, James C Brett, @Schachenmayr Yarns, @TheCrochetCrowd, and Westcott Scissors.” Learn more.
Crochet Quote
“Crocheting is one of my most beloved hobbies. I think one of the biggest reasons I love it so much is the simplicity of it. You only need a hook and yarn to create something. And it’s so easy to bring your projects with you wherever you go.” – @elsiecake in a post introducing a Crochet Basics series on A Beautiful Mess.

Crochet News
There’s a little bit of sad news this week. A fire went up in a house that seemed to be hoarded with crochet items, resulting in tragedy. The report says, “Mario and Theresa’s house has been described by friends as so full of crochet dolls, sheets, cosies and decorations that you could hardly move in the house. The quantity of material was “indescribable” and tallied in the hundreds. Theresa would “sit and crochet all day”, filling their house with dolls, bottles and other decorations wrapped in crochet covers.” A devastating loss (the lives, not just all that crochet).
