I’ve only done broomstick lace crochet twice before and it’s been more than a year since the last time. I love the technique. It’s beautiful and it’s a lot easier than I originally expected. So I decided to play around with it a little bit and to do so in a new way. What I did was took a really basic crochet project and did one row of broomstick crochet to make the project more unique and special. The result was a set of matching crochet dishcloths with broomstick lace near the top.
I used Sirdar Snuggly Baby Speckles Yarn, which is one of the yarns that I chose to purchase with the gift card I got from Black Sheep Wools back when I was named their April blogger of the month. This is a lovely cotton blend yarn that’s 60% cotton, 40% acrylic. It took one 50 gram ball to make each dishcloth.
I worked it with a G size crochet hook. I started by doing a founddation chain of 36, a turning chain and then two rows of hdc in BLO.
Then I did the row of broomstick lace. I used groupings of 4 so that there were 9 groupings across the row.
Then I went back to the hdc in BLO for an easy ribbed crochet dishcloth pattern. I finished up with slip stitch on the short edges and sc on the long edges to give it a finished edging. Then I repeating the process with two more colors t make a total of three matching crochet dishcloths.

That is so pretty! Broomstick lace has been on my “to do” for a long time. Crochet helps me survive from depression, but depression keeps me from being able to do as much as I’d like :)
txmommylady Totally understand that!! Broomstick lace turned out to be a lot easier to learn that I thought it would be at first. Takes some adjusting to get the hang of the way to hold the hooks but after that it’s smooth sailing.
