FAQ

What Can I Make With Hemp Yarn?

There are so many things you can make with hemp yarn, as this fiber has strong stitch definition and durability. This makes it great for crochet items that have structure and body, like bags, baskets, catch-alls, and other types of containers. However, hemp blends are also great for creating clothing and shoes.

Can Hemp Yarn Get Wet?

Yes, hemp yarn can get wet and can be washed with soft detergents. Hemp items hold up best when airdried but will shrink slightly after the first wash.

Does Hemp Yarn Get Softer After Washing?

Hemp yarn does get slightly softer with wash, while also shrinking slightly. However, hemp is much longer lasting than other fibers such as linen or cotton, so you don’t need to worry about it breaking down quickly.

Does Hemp Yarn Have Any Side Effects?

Working with and wearing hemp products will not give you any side effects. Hemp gets a bad reputation due to being in the same plant family as marijuana, yet hemp is practically THC-free (with less than .5% TCH content).

  1. Oh I love this round-up!  I have recently started crocheting with hemp, and it’s so much fun!  I think my favorite thing to crochet with hemp are mason jar covers.  They are super absorbent, and make awesome coaster/cozies.

      •  @CrochetBlogger I’ve been using fine hemp twine that I picked up in the jewelry making section of my local craft store.  It’s about the equivalent to size 3 crochet thread. It’s perfect for what I’m using it for, but I think it would make an absolutely terrifying reusable tampon… LOL!!!
