Earlier this week I shared the Etsy treasury I made of crochet items for your vices. What’s your vice? Mine is coffee. I drink wine and I’ve been known to play Keno but I can quit those things. I don’t think I’ll ever quit coffee, having tried before and decided that a life without coffee isn’t a life for me. It’s a vice because even though I mostly like it, it does have its drawbacks. Sometimes it leaves me jittery instead of just awake and I’m probably always going to have yellower teeth than I’d prefer. But I own it. I love coffee.

And, of course, I also love crochet. As a crochet-loving coffee lover, here are five of the items I think are must-have or must-make items:

1. Crochet Cup Cozy with Sugar Packet Pockets.

There are tons of great crochet cup cozies and cozy patterns out there but I prefer the ones with little pockets for your sugar. I don’t even typically use sugar in my coffee, but I want the option!

This particular image comes from a post on fotografieke but you could add a crochet pocket to the side of just about any crochet coffee sleeve pattern.

2. Crochet Mug Warmer.

I don’t think there’s anything better than wrapping your hands around a warm mug of coffee first thing in the morning on a chilly day. Oh, wait, yes I do … wrapping your hands around a cozy crochet mug warmer on your mug of warm coffee!

This particular crochet mug warmer pattern is sold on Etsy by OlliesBoutique.

3. Cafetiere Cozy

Earlier this week I reviewed Nicki Trench’s book Cute & Easy Crochet and ever since I’ve been wanting to make this cafetiere cozy. I don’t even need it to be functional … I just want to put one on my kitchen shelf to show off my love of both coffee and crochet!

4. Crochet Coin Purse.

You never know when you’re going to want a coffee on the go so it’s good to keep a change purse on you with enough money to buy yourself a cup as needed!

This one comes from a tutorial on Handmade by Calista. Isn’t it adorable?

5. Crochet Bookmark.

I love settling in with a cup of coffee and a good book. A crochet bookmark is nice to have on hand for when you’re coffee is done and it’s time to get back to the real world again!

This crochet bookmark is based on a pattern available for free from CrochetRoo. I found it via Bookmark Collector.

What is the single biggest must-have crochet item for your vice?

  1. They are all lovely! But my heart skipped a beat when I saw the coin purse! I’ve been eying those for quite a while now!

@Maya … I have been looking at various coin purse patterns for a little while so i guess I must want to make one!

Great list, Kathryn! Coffee is my (most wonderful and happy happy) vice, too.

Thanks @Keri … I cursed myself, though. As soon as I wrote this post, my coffee maker mysteriously broke! I had to go out and get a new one.

  3. Nice list! My vice’s dark chocolate, so I would probably make a drawstring pouch to keep my choc stock…

I’m with you! Coffee is my vice and I don’t want to quit! I asked all of my students to write coffee poems for International Coffee Day! Coffee & crochet is a winning combination!

@CAmi – Coffee, crochet and poetry is even better!
