Update: There is now an official post that lists and links to all of the participants in this project. Check it out here.

Awhile back I participated in a cool project called Blog It Forward that helped me spread the word about one of my blogs and also gave me the opportunity to get to know many more wonderful blogs that I wasn’t previously aware of. It was a wonderful experience and I would really love to host something similar specifically to spread the word about the many great crochet blogs that are out there. That’s why I’m launching “Hookin’ Up”, a July crochet blog project.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Participating crochet bloggers will sign up to do a post on their own blogs on one day in the month of July.
  • The post will be a review of the next participating crochet blog on the list, a sort of “pay it forward” method of giving props to other crochet bloggers.
  • For example, let’s say that July 1st is assigned to me, July 2nd is assigned to blogger A and July 3rd is assigned to blogger B. On July Ist I will post my review of Blogger A’s blog. On July 2nd, Blogger A will do a post pointing people back to my post and then reviewing blogger B’s crochet blog. And so on throughout the month.

Options for creative posting:

  • In order to make things unique you will not be limited to just doing a review of the blog that you are assigned to. You are welcome to contact the blogger to see if they are interested in being interviewed, doing a giveaway on your blog, etc. No blogger is required to agree to this – a simple review is totally fine – but it’s an option for those who want to do something more in-depth.

  • Spreading the love for crochet bloggers! It’s a chance for great crochet blogs to shine!
  • Introducing crochet bloggers to others within the crochet blogging community.
  • Giving us all a chance to get to know more crochet blogs than we already do. Happy reading!

If you want to participate:

  • Your blog must be primarily about crochet.
  • You must make a commitment to do your single post in July on your assigned date. Flaking out disrupts the whole “blog it forward” process. If there is an emergency, you can contact me and accommodations can be made but please be genuinely committed to doing this if you’re going to sign up!!
  • Send me an email to kathryn.vercillo (at) gmail.com. Subject line: Hookin’ Up. Let me know your blog URL and that you’re interested in participating. Give me a few days to gather all of the responses and then I’ll email everyone further information about how to sign up for a day in July that will be best for you to post.

I really hope that you’ll want to participate!!!

  1. Sounds like fun! Interviewing the blog one is featuring would be really interesting, I think.

@Misty – Would love for you to participate if you feel up to it!

  2. Well, you’ve got me thinking. I started out with just a tab for my craft projects on my website. But maybe it’s time to breakaway and give craft its own site. I don’t qualify for this contest, but I do invite those of you who are participating to check out my website. I welcome any feedback you have.

I have two more projects to post, both crocheted. Do you think I have enough to start a separate blog? I think it can’t be just crochet. It would have to include knitting, too. I always enjoy the little personal side stories on other crafters blogs. So, I would include a bit of personal news, as well.

Have fun! And I will be watching for your reviews in July. It would be fun to do a podcast hook up, well. I am always looking for good crochet podcasts, but the good ones are usually about knitting or from people who do several different fiber crafts. I’d really like to know about any good crochet podcasts anyone has found.

Thanks for doing this. I will be looking forward to the results in July.

  3. My blog doesn’t qualify either (started as a crochet blog, but I tend to knit more these days), but I can’t wait to read the posts and hop around looking at the blogs that participate.

@Sara – Thanks! I’m probably going to do this again later in the year and open it up to general needleworks and even craft blogs so stay tuned!

  4. This is a great idea! I would love to link directly to crochet blogs instead of trying to find more through Google. Thanks for the link up!

  5. Sounds like a nifty idea, I just signed up. I hope I am considered “mainly crochet” ’cause I do post other stuff, but I’ll wait to see what you say! :)

  6. What an awesome idea! Can’t decided whether to apply or not – I’d LOVE to share the fabness of other blogs, but mine’s a bit, erm, less fabulous than I’d like it to be. (My excuse is I’m too busy crocheting)!!.

@Sara – For this time around I’m just focusing on crochet blogs but I’m hoping to do a second project later this year that is open to all needlework bloggers and I will definitely invite you to join then. You’ve got a great blog!!

  7. sounds like a wonderful idea. I’m always looking for more crochet blogs

  14. Hello,

This is my first blog so I am not sure how it works. I am hoping to learn more about crochet. I have a question. Does anyone have a pattern for a single/double crochet quilt. The one I saw years ago was a full square with a leaf patters quilted on the top. Any ideas,
