Bas de Braver, also known as Zabbez, is a crochet designer who creates really unique flower doll patterns. The dolls are tall and lanky, reminding me a little of the Lalylala dolls and the dolls from Edward’s Menagerie, but they are unique and original in their floral inspiration. Today we’ll learn more about them and the designer from an interview.
The very first crochet artist that I profiled on this blog back in 2011 was Olek. The world was starting to get to know her from her yarnbombing. Many of the artists that I wrote about that year have kind of faded away but Olek’s work in crochet art just keeps getting stronger and stronger. It’s been awhile since this blog explored it so I thought I’d showcase some of her newer stuff here today.
Jennifer Cox is a unique artist who combines crochet with painting in a way that’s original, bold and inviting. She was born and raised in New Jersey, moving to Michigan in 2000. She has training and a degree in advertising and graphic design along with fine art. Asked to describe herself simply, she says, “I’m an artist, designer and mom”. Leandro Dário is a Brazilian 30-something artist working in a variety of mediums and doing really interesting, creative, edgy work with embroidery and crochet.
Felieke van der Leest is a Netherlands-born, Norway-based mixed media artist who regularly incorporates crochet into her work. Learn more about the creative work from this crochet artist. Her work has been nominated or received nearly a dozen awards, is included in public collections around the world and has been featured in at least two dozen books and catalogues including The Zoo of Life collection of her works published by Arnoldsche Art Publishers last year featuring text in Dutch, English and Norwegian.
