It’s the third week of my new series This Year, Last Year, The Year Before em crochê. Vamos olhar o crochê notícias de janeiro 14 – Janeiro de 20.
This Week in 2011 Crochê
The big news for this blog during this week of 2011 foi … The blog was born! Crochet Concupiscence just celebrated its second birthday on January 15th, 2013. (That’s the very first header this blog had!) I’m excited to still be growing this blog and so appreciative of those who follow me here!
One of the core features of this blog has always been the crochet artist profiles that I do. The very first one, done during these dates in 2011, was a profile of Olek. People knew who she was at this time but her work was nearly as widely known as it is today. Olek is an amazingly prolific crocheter with some great large-scale exhibits and I look forward to seeing what she continues to do in the years to come. Some of my favorite posts about her since this first one were the close-ups of her tractor, o Olek video roundup and notes about her London show.
I also did my first designer crochet feature on this site during that first week of the blog’s launch. It was to let people know about the Dolce and Gabbana crochet purse that sells for more than $1300. Em 2012 I shared a different Dolce and Gabbana crochet purse (shown on the left above) and that was one of the most popular posts ever on this blog. I’ve also done profiles of their designer crochet and compared that work to the much-more-affordable crochet from The Sak (shown on the right above).
This Week in 2012 Crochê
Now let’s take a look at what happened on this blog between January 14 and January 20th in 2012 …
First there was the Stitch Mountain project: a collaboration between Red Heart, Jimmy Beans Wool and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) to help bring awareness to knitting and crochet among the ski and snowboard industry.” Shortly after that post I compiled a roundup of Must Have Crochet Items for Skiiers. In more recent ski news, a professional Canadian skiier was using crochet to help raise funds to go to the Olympics. And in more recent Jimmy Beans news I’m super interested in their Projeto vermelho do ponto.
The fiber artist I profiled during this week last year was amigurumi artist Andy Aguilar of The Dope Fiends. He crochets and knits creative characters and then uses them in videos and comics. In July I featured one of their videos as best crochet video of the week. I recently mentioned this artist again in my roundup of 20 terrific male crochet artists.
Also during this week in 2012 I did one of the first preview posts for my book Crochê salvou a minha vida. Foi um saúde de crochê post about the ways in which the craft can help people with PTSD to cope with anxiety, flashbacks and other symptoms. The book didn’t come out until the summer but I tried to share a lot of information during my research process. I continue to research and share this topic on the blog to this day, É claro.
Crochê notícias 2013
News worth checking out from this week …
1. Baby Girl Injured with Crochet Hook. A one-year-old girl accidentally got stabbed in the throat with a crochet hook and had to be taken to the hospital but luckily she’s okay. I rarely think of my hooks as dangerous but they can be. Did you see the previous post I did on crazy crochet injuries?
2. There were two different nice stories this week about older women who use their crochet to help charities. First there is Rene who aprendi de crochet 90 anos atrás and recently sold her work to help out a church fundraiser. And then there’s Josephine DeMassa, um 74-year-old woman who learned to crochet many years ago and recently accomplished the goal of crocheting slippers for every single member of a nursing home she adopted for the project.

3. Ela Me fez mostra biquínis de crochê. Chloe Dunlop está recebendo atenção pela inspiração retrô dos anos 1970 Gold Coast de suas modas, incluindo seus biquínis de crochê, como a mostrada acima. Definitely a designer I’ll add the next time I do a crochet swimwear roundup.
