Drumroll pleaseThe winner of the 2012 award for the best varied information from a crochet blogger is:

* Julia of Crochet aberrante *

Best Varied Crochet Information

Today’s Awesome Crochet Blog Award is for the best varied crochet information on a blog. By this I mean that the blog’s posts are useful and informative. They are also really varied in terms of the type of help they offer, the approach to sharing that information and even the medium of sharing. By offering smart information in different ways across varied topics in crochet the blogger is able to give a little to a whole lot of readers.

About The Winner

Julia Chambers is a crochê designer specializing in using unique yarns and uncommon techniques to make original one-of-a-kind items and to share those items with others through her patterns. She also crochets for charity, especially for chemo patients. Julia his also a crochet hook maker. She shares her thoughts about crochet (and sometimes other things in life) on the Aberrant Crochet blog.

3 Reasons The Winner Won

There are many smart crochet blogs (which is why my Saturday link love posts always include a section calledsmart in crochet”). The reason that Julia was picked for this award was:

  1. She weaves lessons from creative life in with life lessons. In addition to her crochet work, Julia is a lifelong piano player. She often references things learned in piano with things learned in crochet and applies that to a larger lesson. You can see a nice example of this in her recent post Sometimes You Have to Quit to Succeed.
  2. Julia’s information is useful but not predictable. A lot of bloggers offer terrific information in a fairly predictable way; there are bloggers known for theirhow tosor bloggers known for tackling big thought-provoking topics. Julia covers a range of different informational crochet topics, reflecting thevariedpart of this award. I’ll add here that she’s not afraid to tackle the big topics and was an ultimate resource for the best information during the Ravelympics issue this past summer.
  3. Julia shares her thoughts in mulitple mediums. On the blog itself you will find a combination of different styles of posts including text-based informative posts and video lessons. Julia also offers smart sharing through social media like Twitter and shares her knowledge through participating in groups like the Etsy Hookers Team.
