2011 em crochê: Pablo Cabahug, Aldo Lanzini, Crochet Magazine, Ribbed Bobble Scarf
Here’s what was on the blog during this week last year, a few updates on some of those things and a look back at crochet history!
Crochet Art
The artist I featured on the blog during this week of last year was Aldo Lanzini. I’ve mentioned him in mutliple posts since then including:
- Awesome New York Crochet Art From People Other Than Olek
- Topo 10 Exemplos de extrema Crochet Art
- Yarnies the Italians Should Be Proud Of
- 100 Crochê exclusivas Chapéus
- Onde What Not to Crochet Entendi errado
Assim, como você pode ver, I continue to like what Lanzini does! He had a recent show at Gallery Paul Bovee.
Crochet Livros
The book I reviewed at this time last year was Creepy Crochet bonito by Christen Haden. Some other crochet books by this author are Yummi ‘Gurumi: Sobre 60 Gourmet Crochet Treats to Make, Monstruillos de ganchillo
(in Spanish), e Gourmet Crochet
. Another book similar to this author and published by the same publisher is Alicia Kachmar’s Witch Craft: Wicked Accessories, Creepy-Cute Toys, Magical Treats, and More!
Crochet Notícias
I wondered how other crocheters feel about putting knots in crochet work (when changing colors, for example). I do it; do you?!
Crochet Magazine made the switch from bi-monthly to quarterly publication
I defined 25 crochet terms (like LYS and Yarn Crawl and Stashbusting). And then I looked at how some crochet words are re-defined in the urban dictionary.
Crochet Moda
We looked at some designer crochet items vs handmade crochet items.
Mariah Carey wore a crochet top out on the town
2 fashion school graduates each featured crochet in their senior project lines. One of them was Pablo Cabahug whose work I then profiled in more detail. The other designer was Courtney Z. McIntosh who has launched Zatthu, Inc.
Citações de crochê
“Every time crocheting gets labeled cool or trendy, someone somewhere, who I am sure thinks that he or she is being very clever and original, diz, ‘This is not your grandmother’s crochet!’ Like that’s a good thing. One of the things I like about crochet is that my mother did it, and my grandmother probably did, também. I personally don’t want to disengage from Granny but to take her work and move forward from it.” – Mary Beth Temple
“It’s not your grandma’s yarn shop anymore. The yarns do all the work for you.” - Karen Weiberg
“Crochet is a series of loops and chains worked with a hook which draws the thread or yarn through intertwined loops and chains.” – Linda Mariano
“Creativity comes from trust. Trust your instincts. And never hope more than you work.” – Rita Mae Brown
“Just as some of the hooks used for crochet have changed from tortoiseshell and bone to plastic and aluminum, so the uses to which crochet has been put have kept pace with changing times. Today crochet has proved its worth for making high-style garments and everything from the lowly potholder to tea cloths of delicacy and distinction. Boys race off to school in the morning wearing crocheted pullovers, and after dark their mothers appear at first nights carrying sequin-crocheted evening bags. You will find crochet one of the most functional of all the needle arts." – McCall’s
Fio
Revi Novita by Puro. I ended up using this yarn as one of the rounds in my large granny blanket.
Eu fiz um apanhado de 7 São Francisco Lojas Fios. Of the four I’d been to, I’ve only been back to two of them and of the three I hadn’t been two, I’ve only made it to one. I’ll eventually visit all seven though!
Aqui o que eu estava com um ano atrás
Eu compartilhei o meu ribbed bobble crochet scarf.
Eu estava fazendo crochet wine bags as part of my Ano dos Projetos
I continued to moderate Hookin’ Up Project. In this one we saw reviews and interviews from Rip It Good, Twisted Strands, Poppy&Bee, Crafty Corley, All The Strange Hours, Abinocoe and Affordable Wonders.
I tested out the Crochet Lite Crochet Hook. It was one on the list of 25 crochet hooks to try.
I bought a great retro crochet blanket at a thrift store that you’ve seen again recently because it’s been revamped into a kitchen tablecloth.
Este dia na história Crochet
Heading to the Google news archives, I checked out what happened during this week in crochet history in 1975. What I found was the story of a 101-year-old mostly-blind woman who continued to crochet. You know from my archives that I always love these stories. I think people should remain active and creative for as long as possible and I think crochet is a great way to do that!
