i love crochet, watermelon, chocolate, walking, music on my ipod, and reading. that about covers it. mom of 3 grown kids who were homeschooled - one attorney and two entering their last year of law school i know, i know. where did i go wrong?! THREE attorneys when the world already has too many. all i can say is they were homeschooled and have made most of their educational choices on their own. i had to laugh about kathryn being homecoming queen and a dropout. my kids never went to high school and never got GED's. they just went to college. always an interesting source of dinner conversation.

i spend a great deal of time outside if i can, love to travel, have spent quite a lot of time in arkansas and india! how's that for both ends of the geographic spectrum? love st louis where i have lived since was 7 except for those summers in NW arkansas. only learned to crochet when i was 50. have tried my hands at most arts/crafts. most successful for me have been crochet, quilting/sewing, and beadwork. absolutely cannot tolerate cross stitch!!! or bridge or video games or screeching.

I like crocheting an yarn... just like relax and therapy... And I think that I waste my time going to work... HAHAHAHA! Anyway I love handmade things. And I respect all those people who put a little piece of hart in that.

Hello Kathryn I am a fellow crochet addict and found your blog by chance.I have been crocheting since I was about 9 years old having been taught by my grandmother and have always crocheted since.I learned to crochet before knitting and consider myself to be a crocheter rather than a knitter although people always seem more interested in my knitting and tend to dismiss crochet as nothing to get too excited about....which is a shame! There are some absolutely awful crochet patterns out there which are not very inspiring but there are some wonderful ones too.I write a blog ( well try to!) and I must admit that my crochet posts never seem to generate much interest....perhaps it is the stuff I make ??!! At the moment I am making nothing but small shawls/scarves in lace weight or 4-ply yarns and at the moment am making my own design up.

Hi Kathryn, I follow your blog and on google+, I also bought your book the other day, it will get here while I'm on vacation but I will read it upon my return. I have three children, two teens and one tween, who might as well be a teen, he's wise beyond his years, my youngest is. My oldest will get her license soon, so that has been fun this summer. I used to work full time many moons ago but I am a full time stay at home mom who over the years has been a soccer coach ( I also played in our local adult league for 9 anos, great exercise), room mom, helped with cub scouts and I was a GS leader for 10 anos, this was our last year we are finishing our last service project this week. I crochet because I truly enjoy it. I like making things for charity, I love testing patterns, I love making things for others, and I love making things to sell at the local craft show. Crocheting for me for the most part is relaxing. If I don;t want to do it anymore I put it aside and do other things. I never feel chained to it unless I put myself on a deadline, which has happened before. Even pattern testing, I get enough time that I don't feel like it's bringing me down so I can enjoy the process.

Hi Kathryn, I follow you on Google+ and read your blog almost every day. I really enjoy the conversations that get started there. I am the mother of two adult kids, which seems crazy to me as I am still act like a kid a lot of the time. I crochet because I enjoy it and I like making things for people in my life. Pretty simple. I know we've talked before, but I want to 'officially' share and acknowledge... I told you a little about my story on your blog. I"m a recovering addict. I became addicted to opiates after a car accident left me in pain from a back injury. After years of drug abuse I finally found a Doctor who talked me into checking into the detox ward of a hospital. All I took with me was my yarn and crochet hook. I attend NA meetings and there are always a few of us with yarn and hooks.

Even though I crocheted for many years and designed my own patterns, it was only after my rehabilitation from drugs that I was able to start submitting my work to magazines.

I crochet a lot because I love it. It keeps my mind off my pain and any negative thoughts I might be having if I didn't have my trusty hook in hand.Your blog is also a life line for me-it keeps me feeling connected since I spend so much time alone crocheting. I am a crochet-loving cancer survivor! I am lucky that I can stay home and be the full-time caretaker for my two girls: my 5-year-old daughter, and my 91-year-old grandma. I began designing crochet patterns when I was 7 and my Cabbage Patch Dolls didn't have cute enough clothes (uh, I don't do that anymore...). I'm pretty new to the blogging world, but I love having a place to share my ideas and patterns. I adore your blog, and find it to be a constant source of inspiration!

Wow, where to start?! I am intrigued by the title of your book and want to read it, as it resonates with me. I stumbled across your blog recently and loved your recent post about 10 Ideas That Might Be Holding You Back In Your Crochet Journey; several of those points are applicable to life in general! Most of the women in my family are very crafty, from welding garden art to knitting to making bread to gee-what-shall-I-try-next? In particular, my mom is an amazing knitter and seamstress. While we were living on the island of Cyprus years ago, a group of teachers decided to start knitting and crocheting, and I loved crocheting more than knitting. Back home in the US, I left crochet behind for years and just began it again last Christmas. I needed some way to relax after helping my mom through a rare and near-fatal reaction to chemo last summer. On New Year's Day 2012, my mom then fell ill with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a nerve disorder which destroys the myelin sheath on nerve endings, resulting in paralysis. Sitting next to her bed and crocheting has helped me to compartmentalize all the painful parts of this process and allows me to breathe more deeply and focus on what's right in front of me. I'm starting slowly with simple patterns, but loving the rhythm of the patterns and seeing a scarf or shawl or whatever emerge as I work.

Oh, and I should have mentioned that crochet also saved my life! I began to crochet during a time when I could not play the violin due to a shoulder injury... And the loss of a creative outlet nearly did me in. Crochet became an incredible source of joy for me during this painful season, a place where I could create and explore and grow and pray and give away to others, just as I had with music.

Greetings all! My name is Onatah. Ok, I don't know much about blogs (or computers really,) so I thank you for the invitation to share on yours. This is the only crochet blog I follow because it caught my eye and sparks my imagination, doesn't flood it.

I was born in Brazil & raised on Martha's Vineyard. I have been an artist since I was a toddler. As a child I loved drawing self-portraits, making beaded jewelry, and collecting rocks pretending they were crystals. I did spend many years in school & college studying things I was interested in but did not have a passion for. I failed my art classes because I never did what they wanted or never finished on time. I am now very thankful for getting kicked out of a "great" college and fired from a "great" job. Four yrs ago I taught myself to crochet from a book. I started as a way to provide myself with custom-fit hats and clothing and now I care to share my designs with others. I stink at following patterns so I think free-form is where I am headed next. Hmm, I don't really know what to say! I only discovered your blog recently, via Twitter, and think that you always post interesting stuff.

Mas, let's see. I was brought up in a crafty household, in that my mum was always making things (she still embroiders cards to this day), and she always encouraged me to try things out for myself. I taught myself to crochet when I was fourteen, as I had a lot of sick days off school and wanted something to occupy me. I didn't really pursue it as a viable thing to do until two years or so ago. I am now self employed, making crocheted things for a living, which is not exactly what I imagined, since I always thought I'd be an artist (as in drawing, or painting, but I don't see why crochet can't be considered an art form).

I live in the UK, and was born and bred here. I play lots of video games. I have a cat who's about a million years old, but still thinks she's a kitten, and is mental with it. I work from home, and look after my mum.

Also I know exactly how you feel about cheese! I love the stuff (apart from anything with veins in, because it doesn't look right to me).

Olá!!! I have been a loyal follower on Pinterest for a while now and I have stopped by for a visit on your blog from time to time! I am a French girl born in France, I got married to an incredible Israeli man and I have been living in Israel for the last 21 anos!! I used to teach English but I had to go through back surgery which left me on a wheelchair...That was the most difficult period of my life!!! But my granny taught me crochet when I was a little girl and that's what has been keeping me sane for the last two years!!

I found in crochet a way to live passionately without leaving my chair, that means talk, share, meet, learn, love, create, express, give but also take...
