Crochet Works in Vasconcelos’ Versailles Exhibit

Golden Valkyrie: “Handmade woollen crochet, industrial knitted fabric, fabrics, ornaments, polyester, steel cables”

I recently did a post about how Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos was going to be the first female to exhibit at The Château de Versailles. I mentioned then that I couldn’t wait to see what crochet work she would exhibit in this grand space. Well, the exhibit is up so I’ve got the answer. Here it is:

Le Dauphin et La Dauphine. This is the classic crochet work that Vasconcelos seems to be known for - covering items in white or black doily-style crochet.

Likewise, this is a similar style on two large lions.

This is a detail from Golden Valkyrie, shown at the top of this post.

Royal Valkyrie

Valquíria Enxoval – this one has only a bit of crochet in it and also incorporates many other crafts including embroidery, bobbin lace, tatting and even some pottery work

You can see more, larger and better photos over at Joana’s website.
