Awhile back I reported on a girl who was crocheting plarn items for sale in order to pay for college, an education she couldn’t get financial aid for because she’s not a documented citizen of the United States. There’s a new news report about someone else doing the same thing and this time it’s a guy crocheting his way to a degree.
Etsy Pays for College
Hispanically Speaking News explains that Jose Luis Zelaya is a young guy from Honduras who is trying to pay for his own college education as well as for his sister’s college classes. One of the ways that he’s doing this is through his Etsy store, DREAMbeannies. He uses the store to sell inexpensive crochet hats, scarves and other small items specifically to raise money for his college classes. He is studying at Texas A&M University where he is in a graduate program for English as a Second Language. He is the first in his family to get into graduate school.
Learning to Crochet in Honduras
Zelaya was interested in crochet as soon as he first saw it. A woman on the street was crocheting and he told her that he wanted to learn. Niestety, she actually turned him down because she felt that crocheting was a girl’s craft. He was persistent in learning though. He learned and has been crocheting for about twelve years.
Speedy Crocheter
Zelaya is a quick crocheter, which you can see in the video above. W rzeczywistości, he’s attempting to beat the Guinness World Record for the world’s fastest crocheter. Rekord jest obecnie w posiadaniu Gentry Lisa, który może szydełka 28 ściegów na minutę tc. Kolejny szybki crocheter że przyjechał blisko pokonując Gentry Lisa jest Jayna z JJCrochet.
