People who plan to make handmade gifts for the Christmas holidays usually start thinking about it pretty early. It really helps to get that game plan going so let’s talk about Christmas crochet today.

Crochet Christmas Decor

If you decorate your home for the holidays then you might want to enhance your space with Christmas crochet. You can start crocheting these items now and then store them away until it’s time to display them this winter. It’ll cut down on the holiday stress if you do these ahead of time. Plus most of the items are going to be small items, which many people prefer to work on during the summer heat. I recently reviewed the book Little Christmas Decorations to Knit and Crochet, which offers a lot of great patterns for holiday crochet decor.

Crochet Christmas Gifts

The bulk of Christmas crafting for many people is the handmade gifts that they want to make for others. Check out my Lion Brand blog post from last year that offers a number of tips for prepping and planning your handmade holiday. The main thing is to get organized with lists of what you plan to make and then devote the time necessary to getting those gifts done sooner rather than later. Remember that the point of crafting for others is to share your love so you should do it in a way that’s joyful, not stressful!

My Christmas Crochet Plans

I always have at least one crochet blanket on the hooks and those are designated mostly as gifts for others so that’s what I’ll be giving out this year. I also make a lot of crochet bags, including crochet wine bags, to use instead of wrapping paper at the holidays. I have started thinking about whether or not I want to make any other crochet gifts this year for the people in my life. There are a few people that I have in mind and I’m thinking about shawls for them but I haven’t made any definitive decisions, nog. I’d like to have the decisions made and yarn set aside by the end of August, well in advance of the holiday rush.
