Gehaakte poppen vervangen Styrofoam rond Meds voor Afrika

A package arrives in Africa to save the lives of orphaned children whose lives have been struck by HIV/AIDS. The package contains life-saving medication. The meds used to be wrapped up in plastic and packed inside of styrofoam peanuts to keep it safe. Deze dagen, Hoewel, it’s knit and crochet dolls for the kids that fill that space and keep the meds secure during travel.

I learned about this from an Ohio.com article about a church group that is active in creating dolls for the organization. The dolls go to a Canadian organization called ICROSS that was established in the late 1990’s to help children suffering from traumatic conditions in the Congo. Since then the organization has grown to help children in need in developing nations around the world.

The organization has accepted knit and crochet dolls as packing for their medication for about four years. The dolls serve the purpose of packing in the medications but of course they are then donated as well. Orphaned children living in poverty get to adopt the dolls, carrying them as toys and / or using them as pillows.

The church organization profiled in the article tries to use brown as the base color for the doll since they’re shipping them specifically to African kids. They recommend using firm stuffing to make the dolls more durable.

There are both knit and crochet patterns for the dolls online (called Izzy African Comfort Dolls).
