Io non so voi, ma io sto avendo un grande tempo ogni settimana, guardando attraverso le collezioni complete di lavoro da famosi stilisti per vedere se hanno mai offerto o stati ispirati da uncinetto. Questa settimana sul progetto Crochet Designer è Helmut Lang.

Simone Werle di 50 Fashion Designers che dovreste sapere mi dice che Helmut Lang è un designer austriaco che ha aperto una boutique a 1976 e ha fondato una propria attività di moda a metà degli anni 1980, ma in realtà è entrato in proprio nel 1990, quando il suo stile ha contribuito a definire l'approccio minimal chic alla moda di quel periodo. It also tells me that his clothing was especially popular with creative intellectuals at the close of the twentieth century because it was high quality clothing that allowed the individual’s personality to stand out above the clothing.

Lang has an interesting personality, doing things that kind of set him apart a bit as an intellectual snob. Per esempio, in 2000 he was named as the first non-American accepted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America and he chose not to show up to accept the honor. In 2005 he decided to give up his fashion business, selling it to Prada which eventually sold the label to a Japanese fashion organization called Link Theory which continues to run the label with different designers today. People continued to love Lang, anche se, as evidenced by a solo retrospective of his work at an art gallery in Germany in 2008 and a solo art exhibition in East Hampton in 2011.

I haven’t found any crochet in Helmut Lang’s original work (if you know of any, I’d love to see it!) but crochet has been a part of collections from the brand since it was sold to Prada and then Link Theory.
