Modular Crochet is a vintage 1970s crochet book by Judith Copeland that has been republished recently by Dover. It continues to be a terrific book today because it provides a simple method of combining super simple shapes in myriad ways to create well-fitting garments in a range of styles as suitable to today’s wardrobe as when it was first written.

The book that I’m looking at now is called Mandalas and Doilies to Crochet: Delightful Designs to Brighten Your Life. This book doesn’t particularly differentiate between the two (mandalas and doilies), considering both to be round, typically colorful, modèles de crochet. The idea behind the title is to take inspiration from vintage dollies but to recreate them as absolutely contemporary decor, primarily through the smart use of bold colors.

Crochet in Black and White (critique de livre)

I’ve had the opportunity to review a copy of Crochet in Black-and-White and am finding it refreshingly wonderful! I love the concept; as much as I love brightly colored crochet, there is something utterly fabulous about two-tone black-and-white designs. I love the projects, especially the inclusion of a few crochet art pieces for the home, which is not something that I see often enough in crochet books. And I love the design of the pieces, which use simple stitches in smart ways to really showcase the graphic appeal of black-and-white work.

Rainbow Crocheted Afghans (critique de livre)

I was beyond thrilled when I found out that Amanda Perkins was going to be writing a crochet book. I have long been following her beautiful work, always stunned by her unique color combinations, her layout of intricate crochet motifs and her prolific production of truly impressive designs. I have always thought of her crochet blankets as individual works of art and was surprised the first time I learned that she offers crochet patterns so that others can replicate these works of art. I think it’s brilliant that she does this and would definitely encourage blanket-makers to check her out. And those who wish to can now do that with her book!
