yarn donation Project Warm Up Needs Yarn Donations to Continue Charity Work

Project Warm-Up is a 40-volunteer-strong organization that works to provide knit, crocheted and sewn items to help people of all ages stay warm when they are need. Malheureusement, struggles in the past two years have left them without enough yarn and fabric to make the items for donation.

About Project Warm-Up

Project Warm-Up is an all-volunteer organization of crafters who donate their time and skills to create yarn and fabric hats, couvertures, baby sweaters, scarves and other items to people of all ages who need help staying warm (especially in the winter months). They make around 3000 items per month. The items are taken to various non-profit organizations, hospitals and schools for donation.

A Rough Couple of Years

The Tri-City Herald out of Washington State explains that the organization has had a rough couple of years. They had previously been housed at a volunteer center but the nonprofit center closed in January 2010 and that left Project Warm-Up out in the cold. It wasn’t until October that they were able to find space with another nonprofit in the area, an organization which had just finished some remodeling and was willing to share space to sort and store items for donation.

Relying on Donations

The majority of the Project Warm-Up volunteers are seniors on a fixed income so they rely on donated supplies to be able to craft for those in need. They accept yarn donations as well as cash donations to buy supplies. They are currently especially in need of purple yarn for their participation in raising awareness about purple crying as well as red, white and blue yarn for their donations to veterans. Le Tri-City Herald has more information for those seeking to make donations.
