J'ai récemment appris sur l'art de Alexandra Bircken quand elle a été sélectionnée comme artiste de la semaine par The Guardian. Je suis intrigué par ses sculptures avec leurs formes organiques, combinaison de matériaux naturels et anthropiques et l'introduction de certaines crochet dans le travail.

Alexandra Bircken est un artiste allemand qui a étudié la mode au Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design à Londres, qui est l'une des écoles d'art haut du monde. Cette toile de fond à la mode a contribué à lui donner un sentiment de drapage et de la structure qu'un ajoutent un élément d'appel architectural à son art. Son travail a été montré dans les deux expositions solos et de groupe dans plusieurs pays, avec montre chaque année depuis 2004.. This week wraps up an exhibition at London’s Studio Voltaire and she has upcoming solo exhibitions in 2012 in both Rotterdam and Hamburg.

Bircken’s art is strongly rooted in an aesthetic that celebrates traditional crafts, the natural world and a feminine perspective on art. Cependant, it is sculptural work that also incorporates manmade materials that strike a balance against the softer, natural side of the work. Le Learning Curves blog explains the appealing contrast: “I really like the mixture of delicate and colourful crochet, natural elements and rude intrusions like cement, mouldering food and tea bags.”
And The Guardian explains in more detail: “D'un côté, Bircken’s new age-looking work is natural, rough-edged and visibly handmade: every weird stitch invites you to wonder at its making. But from the knitting to the bodily bulges, flora and food, it’s also unmistakably grounded in a traditionally female world. The handmade creations that seem to hail from a domestic realm are mixed up with materials more familiar from industry, such as cement, metal and mirrors. ”
Crochet in Bircken’s art
This piece, titled Birch Field, looks like it might be crochet. It’s definitely some type of needlework that has been stretched across the natural element of twigs. Something about this piece really appeals to me.
Bouquet, une 2005 travailler, is made from wool, concrete and aluminum. It looks to me like that wool has been crocheted. Que pensez-vous? I love the juxtaposition of soft and hard elements here.
Cette 2005 piece reminds me of the yarnbombing on trees qui est devenu populaire ces dernières années!
Comme vous pouvez le genre de dire des exemples ici, Le travail de Bircken semble se déplacer loin de très colorées à écoulement libre à plus neutre, morceaux organisés (comme la première montre ici). Je suis très curieux de voir ce qu'elle fait à côté, surtout si elle comprend plus de crochet et tricot travail!
