I always feel inspired when I take a look at high fashion crochet, whether it is designer crochet, crochet worn by celebrities, or exquisite one-of-a-kind crochet clothing created by someone for a special occasion. Here are ten more inspiring examples of crochet fashion.
Annie’s has always released knit and crochet patterns, offering many great designs over the years, but now they’re doing something a little bit different and it’s super interesting to see. Annie’s is working with leading knit and crochet designers, including lead designer Lena Skvagerson, to create a curated collection of patterns suited specifically for the summer season. It’s about more than just a pattern or even a set of patterns; it’s about evoking a mood or emotion that is relevant to the season of the year, similar to what we see in high fashion.
When the book arrived, the first thing that I noticed was that the cover image looks just like a crochet mandala! I can’t remember now if I’d ever seen the book cover before now, but if I did, it was before crochet mandalas were popular and way before I launched the Mandalas for Marinke project. But after my initial surprise at the book’s cover, I realized that it didn’t surprise me at all, because the piece is so artistic and beautiful and this is exactly what Del, and many of the other designers from that time were doing as they pushed the envelope in crochet.
Daniel Laukat is a San Francisco based fashion designer but I didn’t actually discover his work locally; I saw it in an article I spotted when browsing information about crochet during fashion week; Anna Petkovich writing about Sacramento Fashion Week said, “Don’t miss Daniel Laukat’s feminine, ethereal collection of crochet and lace summer wedding dresses made entirely from recycled textiles.” I immediately had to find out more.
Lots of my favorite crochet designers have put out new collections and lookbooks so I wanted to take a moment to round them up for you, share some of the pieces I adore the most and point you to where you can find out more.
I feel so lucky to be connected to the wonderful community of people that call themselves crocheters. I always love the opportunity to learn more about each of them, whether they are crochet designers, authors, artists or just lovers of the craft. That’s why I’ve always got my eye out for interviews and profiles of people who crochet.
