Esta Semana en Crochet 2011

En primer lugar vamos a ver lo que había en el blog durante estas fechas en 2011.

shauna richardson crochetdermy 400x233 Crochet: 2011, 2012, 2013 (2/18 2/24)

The crochet artist that I profiled at this time last year was Shauna Richardson, the artist who coined the termcrochetdermyand who is the creator behing the big Lionheart Crochet Project for the London Olympics. Her large-scale realistic-looking crochet animals are endlessly impressive to me and I also love the fact that she is eco-conscious enough to source local yarn for her work. Her crochet lions were recently on display at Twycross Zoo en el Reino Unido. I so look forward to learning what she’ll be doing next!

fair trade crochet skirt Crochet: 2011, 2012, 2013 (2/18 2/24)

In crochet fashion I wrote about Interés, the eco-friendly fair trade clothing business founded by Bono’s wife Ali Hewson. Su 2011 collection included bohemian fashion inspiration from the Gypsy / Romany culture. At the time they were working with The Crochet Sisters, Kenyan artisan nuns. Desafortunadamente, there isn’t a lot of crochet in their 2013 spring collection; the sweater skirt shown above is the only piece I spotted.

beans for brains crochet scholarship Crochet: 2011, 2012, 2013 (2/18 2/24)

This was when I first learned about the Beans for Brains Scholarship Program, a really unique scholarship from @jimmybeanswool for crochet and knit designers. It is now in its fourth year. Applications will start being accepted on March 1, 2013 and will be accepted through the end of March. Scholarship info here.

Esta Semana en Crochet 2012

Ahora echemos un vistazo a lo que fue en el blog durante estas fechas en 2012.

yarnbombing crochet 400x300 Crochet: 2011, 2012, 2013 (2/18 2/24)

The crochet artists I looked at during this week last year were the yarnbombing artists that make up the group The Ladies Fancywork Society. They had just done a taxidermia crochet piece for a clothing/ craft store in Colorado. I haven’t seen any new large installations from them lately but I do follow their Facebook la página to see cool stuff about yarnbombing, art and Denver. (The Facebook page is where the above photo was posted). In other yarnbombing news at this time last year was an announcement from Knit the City about a yarnstorming bootcamp en el Reino Unido; they also offer workshops and other events periodically.

dolce gabbana crochet skirt 400x405 Crochet: 2011, 2012, 2013 (2/18 2/24)

In crochet fashion I did a roundup of some of the best Dolce and Gabbana crochet handbags. I don’t see any crochet purses in their current collection (online store) but there are a ew crochet garments including the boucle raffia crochet pencil skirt shown above. También en 2012 fashion I reviewed the little bit of crochet fom designer Elsa Schiaparelli; this brand is re-launching in mid-2013.

prison Crochet: 2011, 2012, 2013 (2/18 2/24)

I wrote about a group of male reclusos at Folsom State Prison has made their very first donation of knit and crochet items to a shelter for women and children. This is one of many, many different programs in the California Department of Corrections rehabilitation program. The progrma, called the Lifer Crochet Group, is described ascompassionate community support via crocheted donations from inmates”. I think there are many benefits to programas de ganchillo prisión.

2013 Crochet Noticias

Y ahora la noticia de crochet de esta semana, este año …

1. Jimmy Beans Wool (mentioned above for the Beans for Brains Scholarship) has had a lot of media mentions recently. This is a great thing because this is a small yarn shop led by a strong woman (Laura Zander) that has succeeded in so many ways. Please watch the following video about her; it’s so touching. (Y sí, Laura’s a knitter but the shop is crochet-friendly; see the posts I’ve done about their upcoming Red Crochet proyecto).

This video was posted by @TheStoryXchange. La New York Times, did a nice article recently about how the brand was successful with social media. And Laura did a TED talk about the power of imagination:

3. News in crocheting for cancer. “The loss of a parent is something people dread.
