Los Kim ganchillo: Kim Guzman and Kim Werker

I recently made a virtual world faux pas. I included a link to an article by crochet writer Kim Werker in my link love roundup. I always notify people when they’ve been written about on my blog so I popped into my gmail and sent a note to … Kim Guzman. I had accidentally mixed up the online identities of these two crocheting Kims in my mind. Kim Guzman was super nice about it and explained that people do this all the time and have been doing so for years.

Sin embargo, I felt a bit bad. Ante todo, I had actually been aware that I sometimes mixed these two up in my mind so I always actively tried to pay attention when mentioning one or the other on the blog. But more than that, I think that each of these women does terrific work on her own and each has a blog I like so they totally deserve for people to individually remember who each of them is! I figured the best way to rectify the situation was to sit down and write a profile of each of these women, highlighting their terrific work. At the very least, this should drill into my own mind who I’m referencing each time I want to share something new from one of them!

Crochet Kim: Kim Guzman

Let’s start with Kim Guzman. She is a crochet and knit pattern designer who also does technical editing; much of her work (but certainly not all) is in the niche of Tunisian Crochet. Kim’s newest book is Tunisian Cables to Crochet.

What Kim especially loves is using unusual stitches in her designs, some of which she makes up herself and some of which she locates in vintage patterns. She provides video tutorial support for her patterns that use these unique stitches. She also teaches online classes through Annie’s. Kim Guzman’s blog is the terrifically named WIPs ‘N Chains.

Kim Guzman sells her designs through a few different spots including her own online retail store Kimane Designs, which she launched in 2005. Here are a few of her crochet patterns:

Kim Guzman usually uses the online handle CrochetKim and can be found on Ravelry, Facebook, Gorjeo, y Pinterest under that name. So if you find yourself thinking about designer “crochetkim” and Tunisian crochet there’s a good chance you are thinking of Kim Guzman.

Crochet Kim: Kim Trabajador

Kim Trabajador is a craft writer, blogger and speaker. She was the editor of Interweave for two years starting in 2006. She launched the CrochetMe online magazine, which she ran until 2008 when she sold the site to Interweave. She co-hosted the first three seasons of Knitting Daily TV. She has written many articles on various topics related to crafting, has authored/ co-wuthored at least half a dozen titles and currently works as a freelance craft book editor. She blogs about crafts on the Kim Werker website.
