I recently showed you how to upcycle old fishnets into sexy armwarmers. What I didn’t mention then was that you can also easily use what’s leftover of the fishnets from that project as a base for crochet necklaces.

When you make the armwarmers, you cut off a portion of each leg. Sin embargo, there is always plenty of leg left and what I did was I cut that part into thin-strip circles. Now I am playing around with crocheting around those circles to make necklaces.

¿Por qué? Bien, besides the fact that it’s great to upcycle stuff you’re not using anymore, I like the fact that this gives me a stretchy circle to use for a necklace. I want to make more crochet jewelry but I don’t want to deal with wire and clasps and jump rings. I don’t always want necklaces that hang down really low so I don’t just want to make ones large enough to slip over the neck. The circle from the fishnets is great because it stretches to fit over the head but springs back to a more tight-formed necklace.

I still have things to figure out here. I’ve never really made a lot of crochet jewelry so I have to figure out the right designs. They aren’t hanging right quite yet. But they’re getting there and I’m having fun with it.
