Vivianne Le Courtois and The Garden of Earthly Delights
Vivianne Le Courtois is known for using unusual items to make art so no one is really surprised that she’s asking people to donate old T-shirts for her upcoming art project called The Garden of Earthly Delights. She wants to take black, grey and dark brown T-shirts and turn them into crocheted rag rugs. These rugs will be placed on the floor of the exhibit for visitors to sit on, providing some interactive art in the space. Perhaps the visitors will be watching plants grow as new plants will be another feature of this art exhibit.

Another example of crocheted rag rugs in current art pieces comes from the Lied Art Center at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. The rugs come from students who participated last semester in a community arts in practice class. They taught themselves how to crochet rugs from T-shirts for the purpose of create artwork to share with the public. They stitched together their separate colorful rugs to create a large rug for the common area of the art center, a modern building that they thought could use a pop of color.
