I was recently asked by a friend to find some good crochet baby blanket patterns to get her started on a new project. As a result, I spent a lot of time browsing the terrific eye candy of great patterns online. That inspired me to put together a roundup of some of the most popular free crochet blanket patterns for babies. Here they are, along with a few newer patterns that you may not have seen yet.
1. Easy-to-Customize Crochet Blanket
Mary Thompson’s A Blanket for All Seasons, which is available as a free Ravelry download, is one that can be personalized in many different ways. It’s great because you can make many of them for all of the babies in your life and no two have to look the same.
2. Shell Edged Baby Blanket
The stitch pattern on the main portion of this blanket is easy and creates a lovely texture. The shell edging adds decorative flair. This is a free crochet pattern from Modern Grace Design.
3. Swirl Crochet Baby Blanket
Sonea Delvon shares the hæklet mønster for this baby blanket as a free download on Ravelry. I love that it’s a non-traditional shape, worked in the round and creating a lovely decorative swirl that feels soothing and safe.
4. Triangle Crochet Baby Blanket
Moogly calls this the Go Team baby blanket because it can be worked in your favorite sports’ teams colors. Men, what I love about the design is the triangle pattern combined with the triangular edging. Unique, fun and a great free pattern.
5. Hexapuff Quilt for Baby
This crochet baby blanket was inspired by the beautiful Apiary Puff og Beekeepers Quilt blankets. This one is a free crochet pattern from Craft Disasters with color inspiration that would be great for a baby girl.
6. Minnie Inspired Crochet Blanket
Mickey and Minnie continue to be classic sources of inspiration for baby items so of course we have to include a Minnie-inspired blanket in this roundup. This one is a free crochet pattern from Liberty Crochet.
7. Quick Crochet Baby Blanket
This baby blanket worked in double crochet with an M hook is one of those projects that you can easily make in just a few hours of work. Terrific for last minute holiday gifts! Det er en gratis hæklet mønster from Marie Anne St. Jean.
8. Slip Stitch Crochet Blanket
A lot of people are celebrating the slip stitch these days so it’s a perfect time to work on a baby blanket comprised entirely of ss and hdc in BLO like this one, which is a free pattern on Ravelry by Jesska Chojnacki.
9. Tiramisu Baby Blanket
Alicia Paulson’s Tiramisu Blanket is currently the most popular crochet baby blanket pattern available for free on Ravelry.
10. Hooded Baby Blanket
Lion Brand’s hooded crochet baby blanket was one of the ones I recommended to my friend and I’d recommend it to others as well. This photo is the version crocheted by Ravelry’s Clundin.
11. Thick Crochet Baby Blanket
This is the Bubbles Baby Blanket by Yarns and Musings. It is worked with two strands held together so it’s nice and thick and cozy.
12. V-Stitch Crochet Baby Blanket
I love the V-stitch. It gives an elegant look to almost any item and yet totally works for a baby blanket. Det gratis hæklet mønster is on a foreign language blog but if you use Google Translate and the stitch diagram photos shown in the post you should be able to figure it out. Update: I just learned that if you scroll down the page you’ll see an English version of the pattern. My apologies for missing that in my first review!
13. Project Linus Blanket
This is the sideways shell crochet blanket designed by Donna Laing for the Project Linus project. This is a great project if you want to donate crochet baby blankets to a good cause.
14. ABC Afghan
I absolutely adore this ABC crochet blanket. It’s a free pattern from Caron available on the Crochet n More site. The one in the photo here is by Ravelry’s MrsDrC.
15. Classic Crochet Baby Blanket
If you are looking for a simple but elegant design that could be worked in absolutely any color then look no further than the classic crochet baby blanket from One Little Rayndrop.
