Future of the City Award
The Future of the City Award started when thirty two different artists were asked to image what a futuristic city would look like. The artists were in four different categories: fotografering, design, textile and food. It’s now been narrowed down to the top two artists in each category, so there are eight finalists, and voting continues to see who will be the winner.
Hæklet Kunstneren Carol Hummel
Carol Hummel is a crochet artist who is best known for her recent work crocheting a tree cozy for a public outdoor exhibit. I sit svar om, hvad en futuristisk by ville se ud, siger hun “det er tid til at tage tilbage vores byer, to throw back the cloak of gray and expose the colorful, the creative, the thoughtful, the fun” and that’s exactly what she does by adding her colorful yarn work to the urban landscape.
Guerrilla de Ganchillo
I already knew about Carol Hummel and her terrific crochet work but I didn’t know about this crochet guerilla who also works to bring colorful yarny creations to the streets. Guerrilla de Ganchillo is a group of yarnbombers based in Spain and they imagine a future of “chillout cities where citizens can dance and walk barefoot, sit on the floor to have picnic with friends while waiting for the bus.”
Voting ends 31st of January at 6 pm CET. Until then you can vote online (no registration or signed in required) her.
Some credit: I originally learned about this award from Debi Y. who posted about it on her blog after she received a note from Carol Hummel.
