Today we are continuing on with the 5th Annual Knit and Crochet Blog Week hosted by Eskimimi Makes.

Today’s Crochet Blog Week Prompt

“Start by writing a few short paragraphs from the point of view of one of the tools you use for your craft. This might be a spinning wheel, crochet hook, pair of scissors or your knitting bag. These first few lines should include a description of this tool’s task and usage. If you are feeling particularly in tune with this item you might assign it feelings.

Then, write a dialogue between yourself and this item. It might describe your relationships, the annoyances that you have felt for this item at some point (or could it have possible ever have felt annoyances with you) and the wonderful work that you have created together.”

About a Crochet Hook

There are, of course, many crochet hooks out there. There are many crochet hooks in here, in this one house, in this one craft bag. So it’s easy to overlook the basic aluminum Boye G hook, to take it for granted, to forget how important it is. But this crochet hook has been there through thick and thin for me. This crochet hook is the classic hook, the go to, the one that works with almost any yarn, the one that can be used to work nearly any pattern (with some adaptations now and then). It’s simple, it’s straightforward, it’s always ready to be on the go.

Conversation with a Crochet Hook

Me: Oh dear G hook, how are you today?

G hook: I’m surprised you’re asking. That’s unusual.

Me: I know, I’m sorry. I usually just take it for granted that you feel like working, that you want to do what I want to do. You’re so acquiescent and peaceful that I forget perhaps you’re not interested in the projects I’m engaged in at the time.

G hook: Oh, no, it’s not that. I’m happy to do any kind of pattern or project that you want to do. That’s my job and I’m proud to do it well. But it’s nice to have you notice that I’m here doing that job. I appreciate that.

Me: Well, I appreciate all that you do for me. I can always count on you. You’re sturdy but not heavy. You’re useful and you’re fun at the same time. We’ve been through so many years and projects together and you’ve never failed me.

G hook: Well you always treat me well. You put me away inside of soft containers. You make sure that I’m never left behind when you go somewhere. So I do know that you care about me but it’s great to hear your appreciation.

Me: Awesome. Ready to work?

G hook: Always!!
