About Fashion Designer Stella McCartney
First I’ll turn to my favorite resource: 50 Fashion Designers You Should Know by Simone Werle to refresh my memory about Stella McCartney’s work, the designer who is the daughter of Paul McCartney. The profile of this contemporary fashion designer highlights the fact that she is a vegan who is concerned about animal rights and practices this in her fashions. McCartney was born in 1971 in London, did her first fashion internship with Christian Lacroix when she was 15, graduated from St. Martins College for Art & Design in 1995 and was named the chief designer for fashion house Chloe in Paris by the time she was 25 years old. She launched her own line in 2001 and works in cooperation with the Gucci brand; she’s collaborated with people like Madonna and Jeff Koons and worked for brands including Adidas and Yves Saint Laurent. She has received numerous awards including this year when she was named one of the 100 most powerful women in the United Kingdom by Woman’s Hour on BBC Radio 4. I’m happy to say that there is a lot of crochet from Stella McCartney.
