In last week’s edition of 1970s crochet designers I profiled Mark Dittrick and mentioned that he had co-authored some crochet books with another designer of the era: Susan Morrow. Let’s learn more about Morrow now.
Susan Morrow
Susan Morrow was a crochet designer who had work featured in several popular books in the 1970s. None of the books said a lot about her as a designer, though, and by the 1980s she seems to have dropped off the radar.

In the same year that Contemporary Crochet came out, my favorite vintage crochet book (Creative Crochet) was also released. Susan Morrow had one of her crochet items featured in that book as well. It’s a crochet mobile, showing that she was making crochet art in addition to the wearables that were the hallmark of the Contemporary Crohet book.

Susan Morrow also had one item featured in another book from that time period, The Crocheter’s Art by Del Feldman. What’s really interesting is that the item is of crocheted food … something we see featured often in the work of 21st century crochet artists (for example, Kate Jenkins).
What Happened to Susan Morrow?
I would love to know what happened to Susan Morrow after the 1970s. I haven’t been able to find any additional information about her online. The few people from that era that I’ve been in contact with haven’t been able to tell me much about her. Did she continue working in the arts? Did she go on to do other things? If you know, I’d love to hear about it. In the meantime, I’ll keep looking …
