15 Amazing Crochet Tattoos That Are Sure to Inspire You

I’m a firm believer that crochet is for everyone! The person who crochets may be a granny in a rocking chair with an afghan on her lap, a big buff football player, or anyone else in between.

Maybe you’re a little bit of an edgy crafter and tattoo ink is part of your passion for self-expression, or maybe a crochet-themed tattoo is just your way of showing your dedication to the craft.

Whether you fit into one of those categories or not, I think you’ll enjoy checking out these crochet-themed tattoos.

Ball of Yarn and Crochet Hook

I’ve seen quite a few variations on this yarn ball tattoo. Some are colored, some are in black and white, and some incorporate text or other decorative elements.

I really liked the simplicity of this version, and I love the way the yarn looks soft and textured.

Yarn Over the Finger Tattoo

Here is a very small and simple tattoo, and while it might not look like much to the average person, it takes on a new meaning for those who crochet.

The line on her finger is right where the yarn sits while she crochets, and I think it’s such a cool and subtle nod to the craft.

Crochet Hummingbird Tattoo

The caption on this post shares that the tattoo was done in memory of the recipient’s grandmother. The hummingbird is carrying a string of crocheted flowers, and it’s easy to imagine that crochet was an important part of their relationship.

So many of us learned to crochet from a family member, too, that this tattoo is very relatable and special.

Granny Square Tattoo

A granny square is an iconic crochet item, so it just makes sense to see it as a crochet tattoo design!

The artist did an amazing job illustrating the stitches and clusters in this granny square.

Tiny Yarn Ball Tattoo

This tattoo might be the perfect inspiration if you aren’t ready for a larger design. It’s a delicate line drawing of a yarn ball, hook, and a heart that only takes up part of a single finger.

It’s small enough that it might go unnoticed by many people, but you’d definitely see it all the time – especially when you’re crocheting!

Crochet Hook Skull Tattoo

I really like this tattoo because while it has an edgy feel, it also seems a bit tongue-in-cheek.

The colored skull can scare people off from a distance, but behind the skull is a set of crossed crochet hooks and the somewhat silly message “hook fast, die warm.”

This feels like a fun play on the classic skull tattoo, but it only looks scary at first glance.

Crocheting Ghost Tattoo

This ghost isn’t fooling anyone – there’s absolutely nothing scary about him.

It’s a great choice for people who love Halloween and “spooky season” but are actually cute and cuddly at heart (and we know you’re out there!).

Crochet With Tea and Cookies Tattoo

Forget sugar, spice, and everything nice; I prefer cookies, tea, and crochet for me.

Okay, the rhyme needs a little work, but the sentiment is there! This colorful tattoo is a perfect representation of everything needed for a relaxing afternoon.

Crow With Crochet Hook Tattoo

Here is another tattoo that was done in memory of the recipient’s grandmother.

The crow is sitting on knitting needles and holding a crochet hook, all symbols that remind her of her grandmother. It’s beautifully done and a lovely homage to a loved one.

Flower With a Crochet Hook Stem

I’ve seen a couple of tattoos in this vein, with a crochet hook standing in for the stem of a flower in the tattoo design.

It’s a nice way to incorporate the crochet hook into a more common design, and I think it would also make a lovely commemorative tattoo if the person you’re honoring enjoyed crochet.

Nightmare Before Christmas Crochet Tattoo

This is a pretty neat larger tattoo that incorporates crochet with Nightmare Before Christmas. It makes a cool image, especially since Sally has a stitched-up look herself.

If your style is a little edgier or you like bigger tattoos, maybe a sleeve, this could be a good option.

Amigurumi Tattoo

The artistry of this tattoo is incredible – this amigurumi figure has been rendered perfectly into tattoo form.

The tattoo artist really nailed the texture of both the stitches and the yarn hair. It’s definitely one of the most amazing yarn tattoos I’ve seen.

Colored Yarn Ball Tattoo

Here is another relatively simple design, but it is a colored tattoo rather than the black hook and ball of yarn tattoo we saw in some of the above designs.

Although the yarn and hook design is one of the most popular tattoo choices I have seen, there are so many variations that I always enjoy seeing them all.

Crochet Tarot Card Tattoo

This is one of the most creative crochet tattoo ideas I have seen yet! It’s designed to show a tarot card with a yarn ball and a crochet hook, and tons of attention has been paid to every detail of the design.

The Roman numeral at the top is 79 because there are actually 78 cards in a tarot deck, but as the owner of this tattoo says, this is “the one that should have been included!”

Doily Tattoo

The caption of this photo explains that the design was made to represent her grandmother’s doilies.

It’s a really lovely representation of a beloved crochet item, and I like the way the doilies have been mixed in with flowers and leaves. The whole effect is very pretty, and it’s a nice, subtle way to commemorate her grandmother’s love of crochet.

Do you have a crochet tattoo, or would you ever consider getting one? Have any of these designs inspired you?

I hope that even if you aren’t moved to get some crochet ink, you’re at least walking away inspired to go create some crochet art!

  1. I don’t have a crafty tattoo yet, but you’ll have to make an addition to this post when I do: My plan for a new tattoo is a diagram for a granny square, done in three rounds (and three colors). I hope I can get this to work and look good! :)
