This post is the first in an exciting new weekly series here at Crochet Concupiscence. In addition to the daily crochet jobs listings that I’ve begun, I’ll be doing a weekly roundup of current calls for submission. I’ve turned to the sites I regularly check on the web to find the latest calls for crochet patterns, crochet articles and fiber arts entries. Let’s kick it off!
Crochet Pattern Calls for Submission
Knit / Crochet Basketball Net Patterns
This is a cool, unconventional call for crochet / knit patterns. It’s for a project that “aims to create functional, hand-crafted basketball nets for neglected public hoops” and to encourage the re-purposing of abandoned urban spaces. The 15 – 20 chosen patterns will be compiled into a guide distributed nationwide and used as a resource for people participating in the project.
Compensation: None listed
Deadlines: Must RSVP an expression of interest by 1/31/12, net pattern due 3/31/12
Fall 2012 Twist Collective
Twist Collective primarily seeks knitting patterns but will occasionally accept a really great crochet pattern so it may be worth a shot to consider submitting. They’ve created a great mood board showing what they’re looking for this time around.
Compensation: Patterns are sold for $5-$9; designer gets a percentage of pattern sales and retains many rights.
Deadline: 1/19/2012
Crochet Traditions 2012
Interweave’s historical PieceWork publication puts out an annual issue focusing on crochet traditions. They are seeking “well-researched feature stories accompanied by fine thread crochet projects that complement the story or projects accompanied by introductions that provide the historical information on the pattern, the technique, or both. In either case, the historical context is paramount.”
Deadlines: 1/28/12 (proposals), 3/1/12 (finished submissions for accepted proposals)
Crochet Writing Calls for Submission
Crochetville Book about the Love of Crochet
Crochetville is seeking submissions of essays, short stories, poems and other writing and drawings related to the love of crochet for an inspirational book on the topic. A wide range of submissions will be accepted.
Compensation: No pay. Bio and website URL with your story in book. You retain most rights.
Deadline: Tentatively 1/31/12
Crochet Art Calls for Submission
The Artist Project
The Artist Project is a collaboration between an experienced artist, the Museum of Fine Arts, and eight after-school community organizations in the Boston area. Drawing inspiration from the MFA’s collection, the selected artist will plan and lead an art project with children between the ages of six and twelve. Artist receives a stipend of $18000 plus $3000 for materials.
Deadine: January 1/13/12
AnnMarie Garden Residency Program
Want to be an artist-in-residence this spring, summer or fall to work on crochet art in a private studio in a natural east coast setting? 1-3 month residency positions are available. The artist-in-residence has a private studio but works with the local community on eco-friendly art projects.
Deadlines: 1/15 for spring, 4/30 for summer, 7/15 for fall
If you have any good leads on places to find additional calls for submission, I’d love to add it to my list of regular spots to check. And if you are seeking calls for submission for your store, magazine or site then use the contact form on my site to drop me a line and I’ll spread the word.
