Delores Schlegel is an eighty-seven-year-old woman who is putting her crochet skills to use by making much needed warm weather caps for children in need. Her husband of more than 65 years supports her, sitting by her side and reading while she stitches.
Schlegel, like many older women, began crocheting a lot primarily because she wanted something to do that would keep her busy. She likes the craft, which she finds to be really relaxing.
Schlegel also likes being able to give to those around her while simultaneously avoiding waste and living frugally. She takes the bits of yarn she has here and there and uses them to crochet very simple caps. She then donates these to children in need at the Highline Public Schools near her.
Schlegel has delivered hundreds of hats to the children in this school system. She has no plans to stop anytime soon!
